One Piece’sWano Country arc revealed quite a lot to the fans about the story of Joy Boy and, at the same time, added a lot of depth to Luffy’s character. One of the most important things for Luffy in the arc was “becoming Joy Boy,” which meantfinally defeating Yonko Kaidoand taking the next big step on the grand stage.
In doing so, Luffy also awakened his Devil Fruit. It was revealed to the fans that the Devil Fruit’s true name wasn’t the Gomu Gomu no Mi, but the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and it is hugely important to the overarching plot of the series.

As such, there are quite a lot of new things that fans have found out about this ability, especially through Dr Vegapunk, the genius scientist who knows all the secrets of the Devil Fruits. Even though this list already goes over quite a lot of interesting things that fans should keep in mind about this fruit, it has now been updated with more such curious information about the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.
17Can Bring Imagination To Reality
One of the most overpowered abilities of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nikais being able to bring imagination into reality.This is an ability that he utilized first against Kaido, however, fans weren’t sure as to whether this was truly an unrestricted ability or not. However, the Egghead Island arc ofOne Piecehas all but proven that this ability is truly unrestricted. Basically, anything that Luffy can imagine will turn real. Luffy is only restricted by his imagination.
As long as he has total confidence in what he is doing, he can make the impossible happen. For instance, in the fight against Rob Lucci, Luffy was able to create a pair of goggles out of thin air. If that wasn’t enough, in the fight against Kizaru, Luffy was able to swallow light and become a light bulb. In the fight against Saturn, Luffy was able to run in midair, which is something that he also did against Kaido. To add to that, Luffy then slapped both Kizaru and Saturn together, turning them into paper-thin pizzas, and spun them on his fingers. All these things go to show that whatever Luffy thinks can be made into a reality, and this might just be the scariest ability of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.
16Has Powers That Are Out Of A Comic Strip
One Piece is built on incredible fights, and the vast majority of these amazing clashes are serious, as one would expect. However, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, when awakened, changes all of that. Through Gear 5, Luffy gains the power to bring joy and laughter wherever he goes. He fights like the Warrior of Liberation, and more importantly, he can also affect everyone else around him with his power.
Simply put, Luffy has the power of toon force and he can make enemies look ridiculously stupid. Against Kaido, Luffy punched right through his face before he threw him on the ground. Later on, he turned the Yonko into a skipping rope. If that wasn’t enough, he turned Saturn and Kizaru into paper-thin versions of themselves, and spun them on his fingers. These powers, as Kaido put himself, are straight out of a comic strip. Luffy himself embodies quite a lot of these properties. For instance, when he’s burnt, he appears as a charcoal black version of himself, which is quite cartoonish. When Luffy is hit, he has birds and stars overhead, and once again, all this goes to show that he has comical powers at his disposal.
15Is A Life-Threatening Ability
Gear 5, which is the awakening of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika is an incredible power, however, it is one that also threatens Luffy’s life. While normally, Luffy’s life is not threatened by this ability, if overexerted, it can certainly kill. This was confirmed in the fight against Kaido, when Luffy, who was at his very limit, started losing Gear 5. Luffy entered Gear 5 once again, and to this, Kaido clearly stated that if he continues to push himself too much, he was going to die.
Luffy himself said that the energy consumption of Gear 5 is simply way too much. As such, if Luffy overuses Gear 5, he could very well end up dying, that is, at least until he masters this power to the fullest.
14Has The Power Of A Giant
Gear 5 has many incredible applications, and one of the most amazing things that Luffy has done using it is turning into a giant. Luffy first utilized this ability in the fight against Kaido. By turning into a Giant, Luffy tried to stomp on the Yonko. Later on, he used the Yonko as a skipping rope, and this was a clear indication of the fact that gigantification boosted his power tremendously.
In Egghead, Luffy took to his giant form once again when he grabbed Kizaru and Saturn at the same time. His gigantification powers are immense and, simply put, they grant him strength greater than that of the Giant race of the One Piece world, which is highly coveted by itself.
13Exists Because Someone Wished It
As revealed by Dr. Vegapunk recently, all Devil Fruits exist because someone wished them into existence, in a way. Devil Fruit powers are what humans have always longed for. At times, a particular person wished for something that he didn’t have and this led to the manifestation of the Devil Fruit through an unknown process.
The same logic applies to the Nika fruit as well. At some point in history, someone wished for the existence of a warrior of Liberation, or Nika. As such,the Hito Hito No Mi, Model: Nikawas born. This Devil Fruit became the epitome of human freedom and whoever eats it ends up becoming a warrior who fights for the liberation and joy of people.
12Can Take Over The Person
Zoan Devil Fruits are known to be quite intriguing. It was mentioned andOne Piecechapter 1044 that Zoan fruits possess a will of their own. As such, they have quite a huge say in who ends up eating them as they try everything to be eaten by a person who they resonate with the most. This is especially why Luffy, the embodiment of freedom, ended upeating the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. Similarly, Lucci, who was a cold-blooded assassin, trained by the World Government, ended up eating the Neko Neko no Mi, model: Leopard because it resonated with his personality.
Now, fans also know that these Devil Fruits have the power to take over the personality of the user. In the case of Luffy and Lucci, however, their willpower is strong enough to resist this and maintain full control of their own body and actions.
11Searched For Luffy
The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika is a special Devil Fruit in more ways than one. It is believed to have been eaten by someone long ago in the Void Century. After the fall of the Ancient Kingdom, however, this fruit ended up being reincarnated and it started evading the World Government, no matter how hard they tried to get their hands on it. It reached a point where the current generation of the Gorosei believed the Nika fruit to be nothing more than a myth.
However, the fruit is very real and has been evading the World Government for years. This fruit only allowed itself to be stolen by Shanks because it knew that eventually, that would lead it to Luffy. It only allowed Luffy to eat it because it knew that Luffy is the embodiment of freedom itself and resonates with his personality perfectly. The fruit ended up choosing Luffy, just as Blackbeard mentioned the Yami Yami no Mi chose him.
10Stolen By Shanks
The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika was first revealed to the fans in the very first chapter of the story. Luffy ate the fruit thinking it was dessert and gained the power of rubber ever since. The fruit was actually in possession of Shanks and according to his crew, they stole it from an enemy ship.
In the Wano Country arc, fans got to know that the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika was stolen by Shanks from a Government vessel and even had the CP9 guarding it.
9Coveted By The World Government
The World Government considered Nika, or the former user of the Nika fruit, to be an enemy of theirs. This fruit held great importance and significance for the Ancient Kingdom and for that reason, ever since the Void Century, the World Government had been trying to get their hands on it.
Surprisingly, according to the Gorosei, they never succeeded in doing so and this was attributed to the fact that Zoan fruits have a will of their own, and this fruit in particular was evading them on purpose.
8A Mythical Zoan
For the longest time, fans considered Luffy to be a user of a Paramecia type of Devil Fruit. It was believed that Luffy’s fruit turned him into rubber and gave him the power to stretch.
However, the Wano Country arc revealed that the “Gomu Gomu no Mi” was only a name used by the World Government to hide the Devil Fruit’s real name. In reality,the fruit’s name is the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nikaand it belongs to the Mythical Zoan class.
