One-Punch Manis a fourth-wall-breaking shonen anime and manga whose fan base is consistently increasing with time, and fans are eagerly waiting for the third season of theOne-Punch Man(OPM) anime. One of the main factors that should be given the credit for the popularity of theOPMseries is its set of unique characters like Bang, Tatsumaki, Fubuki, Metal Bat, Saitama, etc. One such unique character is the cyborg hero Genos who joined the Hero Association recently and was put in the topmost class of the heroes of the Hero Association, the S-Class.
Genos is a hero with a strong sense of justice and sheer will with a goal to become even more powerful and for that, he needed a teacher which is why he chose Saitama of all people as his teacher sincethe latter is the strongest person in Earthso far. There are certainly other reasons why Genos chose Saitama as his teacher; let’s look at what they are.

Saitama’s Discipline
Genos is certainly not someone who would just become a disciple to anyone, for a strong and moral person like him, it would require someone way more powerful and altruistic than Genos to become his teacher or sensei, and Saitama is perfect for that spot. He is way stronger than Genos and a bigger altruist than the latter since he saves someone almost every other time, although he can be a little sloppy at times. Hence, it is only natural for Genosto get spell-bounded by Saitama’s personality and strength, therefore, declaring himself the latter’s disciple. However, this is not as simple as it sounds, there is one big thing that drives Genos to get inspired by Saitama which is his disciplined way. According to theOPMstory, Saitama isnot like most overpowered shonen anime protagonistssince he did not get his powers from a unique source or something similar to it, instead, he just followed a disciplined routine involving a very tough workout and a weird diet. Even though, Genos himself also got annoyed with Saitama’s training regimen which the latter used to gain his powers.
This disciplined life that Saitama leads motivates Genos to become like Saitama and become more disciplined in terms of daily life and ambitions. This is one of the main reasons why Genos chose the caped baldy hero as his sensei. Saitama is also perfect as Genos teacher because his company has made Genos a calmer person than he was before simultaneously moderatinghis too-intense pursuit of justice and power. This has led to Genos actually becoming curious about normal little things in life like the meaning of fun.

Genos was not always the Demon Cyborg that he is known to the world today. He used to live a normal life like normal people, though, everything changed whenhis town was destroyed by a mad cyborgwhich also resulted in the killing of his family. However, Genos somehow survived the attack even though he was just on the brink of death before getting saved by Dr. Kuseno who had been tailing the mad cyborg. Dr. Kuseno turned Genos into a cyborg upon the latter’s request, and this is how Genos went from being a normal human being living a normal life to becoming a cyborg hero fighting for justice with a promise to Dr. Kuseno to find and destroy the mad cyborg.
Though, even after years and years of search for the mad cyborg, Genos has not been able to trace the former. Even if Genos were to find the mad cyborg, and it turns out to be way stronger than him then, Genos will most likely perish from the face of Earth just like his town and family. But this is where Saitama comes into the picture because no matter how powerful the mad cyborg potentially turns out when it will make an appearance to have a face-off with Genos it won’t be stronger than Saitama. This logic helps Genos dually - motivating himto surpass his teacher Saitamain terms of strength, and if Genos is not able to take on the mad cyborg on his own then, he would have Saitama at his side to help him out in putting an end to the mad cyborg.
To summarize, Genos' impulsive decision to declare himself as Saitama’s disciple and make the former his teacher has changed a lot of things for the better. As absurd as it seems, Saitama has been an overall positive influence on Genos unconsciously making the latter rekindle hislong-lost human emotions and feelingsof joy and fun. It can also be observed in terms of Genos' combat skills as when in he is fighting an enemy on his, he seems to be calmer than he used to be before in the earlier fights that he had with past enemies. Destiny sure did my making the fan-favorite cyborg Genos andOne-Punch Mancross paths and become the closest thing they both have to have a best friend.
