The first official look at Christopher Nolan’s latest film has been released, but isn’t available for everyone’s eyes quite yet. The first teaser trailer for Nolan’sOppenheimerdebuted moments before Jordan Peele’sNopebegan rolling. For now, the trailer will appear only in theaters and in the future, another teaser may be gifted to the public.
Nolan’sOppenheimeris expected to premiere in July 2023. BothOppenheimerandNopeare products of Universal Studios, and this isNolan’s first film not under the Warner Bros.banner. Some theaters began showing Peele’s newest film on July 21, one day ahead of its official release date. Nolan is known for his exploration of time in his films and withOppenheimer’spromoted July 21 release date, the games have already begun.

TheOppenheimerteaser features the voices of Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr., while granting viewers an official look at Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer. “The world is changing, reforming. This is your moment,”Katherine Oppenheimer (Blunt)says near the start of the teaser. Shortly after, a countdown begins to tick across the screen: “11 months, 24 days, 15 hours, 29 minutes.” There are then a few brief shots of Murphy in black-and-white sequences and the blast seen onOppenheimer’sposter. As the film’s title appears on screen, Lewis Strauss (Downey Jr.) is then heard saying: “The man who moved the earth.”
This new look atOppenheimerwas accompanied bythe release of the film’s first posterearlier in the day. The poster is covered with a thick layer of smoke from a presumed atomic bomb blast, from “the father of the atomic bomb.” In the thick of the smoke is Murphy as Oppenheimer. The poster is accompanied by the film’s title, its anticipated release date, and the tagline: “The world forever changes.”
Oppenheimeris far from Murphy’s first collaboration with Nolan, but it is his first time leading one of Nolan’s films. Murphy has starred in Nolan’sBatman Begins,The Dark Knight, andThe Dark Knight Risesas Scarecrow, as well asInceptionandDunkirk. InOppenheimer,Murphy will be joined by an all-star cast that includes Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Rami Malek, Jack Quaid, Kenneth Branagh, Gustaf Skarsgård, Dane DeHaan, and many others.
Nolan’s exploration of time has already begun with the countdown located in the teaser and his strategic release of both the poster and teaser precisely a year beforeOppenheimeris scheduled to release in theaters. Whether the teaserthat is currently playing ahead ofNopewill be released to the public is unclear, as Nolan pulled a similar trick withTenetin 2019. However, knowing Nolan, there will be much more about the film that is still to come.
