There’s nothing like phenomenal cosmic power, which is why the Sorcerer class is so popular in the world ofRPGs. It focuses on both ranged and magical damage, often forming the basis for a typical “Battlemage” homebrew. While other classes have healing or defense spells in their repertoire, the Sorcerer just likes to throw fireballs. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some smart spell choices Sorcerers can make as part of anyPathfinder: Wrath of the RighteousSorcerer builds.

ThePathfinderfranchisehas a wide range of choices regarding classes, and that includes a variety of spell-casting classes. The Sorcerer in particular has a lot of customization options. The type of spells the player knows depends largely on their Bloodline, the special ancestry the player chooses to explain their character’s intuitive magical skill. Still, regardless of Bloodline or Heritage choice, there are a few spells that are ideal for anySorcerer build inPathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.
Updated on July 08, 2025, by Kristy Ambrose:Pathfinder: WotRkeeps evolving, and months later players have discovered even more of the game. The Sorcerer continues to be a popular choice, with plenty of adventurers having fun with this powerful class by skipping past the book-learning part and spontaneously blowing things up until the next long rest. The new entries will be more advanced spells and even powers connected to Mythic Path abilities.

12Chain Lightning: Evocation, Level 6
Chain Lightning looks terrifying, hits multiple enemies, and does a savage amount of electrical damage. It also avoidsthe caster’s allies and other friendly targets, making it an AoE spell with one less of the usual disadvantages.
All of this makes Chain Lightning a natural choice for Sorcerers, and not only them. This is one of the most usefulPathfinder: Wrath of the Righteousspells, and can also be cast by Shamans, Wizards, and Witches. It’s highly recommended that as many of your companions have it as possible.

11Daze: Enchantment, Cantrip
This might not be the flashy kind of spell that Sorcerers have a reputation for casting; however, it’s so usefulthat every caster should know it. The Daze spellputs the target creature in a mental haze that renders them unable to perform any actions, therefore causing them to miss their next turn.
If the player needs to give their party a quick advantage or give themselves a chance to get out of the way of a swinging blade, it’s indispensable. Never underestimate the power of disabling enemies as part of a strongPathfinder: Wrath of the RighteousSorcerer build.

10Haste: Transmutation, Level 3
This is a defensive spell that boosts a teammate’s power, but in addition to some handy buffs, it also gives the target an offensive edge. Players will want to carry a bit oflicorice rootwith them, as this is the component required to cast one of the best spells inPathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.

Obviously, the main point of Haste is to speed up the target, but that’s not the only use this spell has. Other benefits include a +1 bonus on the target’s attack rolls, and a +1 dodge bonus to their armor class and Reflex saves.
9Summon Huge Elemental: Conjuration, Level 6
Why conjure a medium or a big one? Don’t settle for less than aSummon Huge Elemental, and until they get to this size they aren’t really effective in battle beyond crowd control anyway. Clerics also have access to this impressive spell as one of their offensive magical options. It’s an important component in any Sorcerer build inPathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.
Remember that this summoned minion doesn’t have to be of the fiery kind, which is often the frame of reference the player has when it comes to conjuring an elemental. The storyline inPathfinder: Wrath of the Righteousinvolves a lot of demons, so unless undead critters are involved, it’s better to choose water or earth most of the time.

8Acid Pit: Conjuration, Level 4
This is one of thosePathfinder: Wrath of the Righteousspells that conjures just what the name implies:a pit filled with acid. It’s neat just to have around, but there are also a wide variety of uses for a dangerous pit, especially when it comes to battlefield management and crowd control.
Acid Pit’s most obvious use is to destroy enemies, but that’s not its only potential function. Players can use this to block a pathway or to protect a valuable item or area. A Sorcerer needsa drop of acid and a fine shovelas regents to create this fearsome trap, and it’s easy to find these ingredients among common reagents.

7Sentry Skull: Necromancy, Level 2
One of the best things about this spell, other than how shamelessly gruesome it is, is that Sorcerers can get it as early as level 2. All they will need to cast this spell isan onyx gem and the severed head of a humanoid creaturethat’s been dead for less than 24 hours. It should be noted that for this spell to work properly, the head has to be mounted somewhere or hung from something. Even a simple stake in the ground will do.

Once the spell is cast, the head functions asa sentry that has both Darkvision and light vision, and will warn the player of any suspicious activitywithin a 30-foot radius. When the head is taken down, so to speak, the spell is broken.
6Finger of Death: Necromancy, Level 7
A classic spell that causes instant death with a mere touch, Finger of Death is often associated with Wizards of the evil persuasion and dark Clerics who specialize in Necromancy or negative energy. It doesn’t exactly guarantee an instant kill, but always gets close with 10 points of damage per caster level, which is a lot even if a character is just level 4 or 5.
The only real disadvantage Finger of Death presents is the necessity to be within touch range of the target, and squishy Sorcerers tend to avoid the front line. Combine this with a defensive spell such as Invisibility or Mage Armor before getting in close for the killing tap.

5Protection from Alignment: Abjuration, Level 1
The main storyline inPathfinder: Wrath of the Righteousconcerns a battle against demons. Thus, Sorcerers are going to use the Protection From Evil variant of this spell more often than others.
Protection spells like this are associated with Clerics and Paladins more often than Sorcerers, but considering the kind of module this is, it can be wise to diversify.

This spell gives the target a healthy+2 bonus to their armor class and throwing saves when fighting any opponent of the selected alignment. This is also one of the first spells that Sorcerers can learn, so it would be wise to grab it when it becomes available.
4Share Memory: Divination, Level 2
Ever wonder what “dream fasting” would actually be like? This is the spell that answers that question. Share Memory can’t be used in combat very often, as the user has to be close enough to touch someone for it to work. However, it can function in a lot of different ways if the player’s Sorcerer is the creative type. It can also add some plot twists or character development to the storyline.

This spell can be used to share the caster’s memory with the targetor to show the target one of their own memories. It can also reveal a memory of the target to the caster. This can be a handy tool during an interrogation, or if the Sorcerer wanted to find out if someone was telling the truth.
3Hold Monster: Enchantment, Level 4
This is one of the few times that a Sorcerer should make a bit of room available in their tome of spells for a bit of crowd control. It’s also handy to have when facing monsters, whether they come at the partyin the form of demons, elementals, or other fearsome beasts.
This spell only keeps a monster from moving, but it doesn’t do any damage the way that other spells like Acid Pit can do. Sorcerers can access this spell before most of the other high-level crowd-control spells, and it can hold a troublesome monster still while a friendly person with a melee weapon hacks away at it.
