This past September marked the 25th anniversary of the much-belovedPersonaseries. To help commemorate the event, Atlus put together a year-long series of merch drops, live events, and a handful of exciting announcements, but when it was all said and done, something felt curiously missing:Persona 6.
When the 25th anniversary kicked off, fans were teased with a slate of upcoming announcements featuring promotional art that seemed to be leaving room for something mysterious to be added. The obvious theory was that the end of the celebration would include the official announcement that the long-awaitedPersona 6was on its way. What fans got, however, was simply arelease dateforPersona 3 PortableandPersona 4 Golden, previously revealed to be coming to modern consoles along withPersona 5 Royalduring last summer’s E3.Persona’s 25th Anniversary Celebration went out with a bang, sure, but not a very big one.

The Missed Opportunity to Announce Persona 6
On October 8th and 9th of this year, Atlus held itsPersonaSuper Live P-Sound 2022 concert. This is significant because the past three times these concerts were held, they were accompanied by the reveal of upcomingPersonaprojects. After years of teasing and missed deadlines, with only an ominous teaser released showing a series of chairs shackled to balls and chains, the team lifted the veil during 2015’s concert and debuted the first official trailer forPersona 5. 2017’s concert saw announcements forPersona 3: Dancing in Moonlight,Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, andPersona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth. Finally, in 2019, the concert gave thefirst looks atPersona 5 RoyalandPersona 5 Strikers.
Fan expectations for a reveal ofPersona 6during this year’s Super Live concert were at an all-time high, especially with the event coinciding with the end of the 25th Anniversary year. Hopes were quickly dashed though when Atlus released a statement ahead of the show announcing that nonewPersonagameswere to be announced. This was a devastating blow to fans who waited the entire year in hopes of a reveal.

Everything Known About Persona 6
Details onPersona 6are incredibly scarceat the moment. At the conclusion of its anniversary events, Atlus released a statement thanking fans for their support and asking them to look forward to “the next stage for thePersonaSeries!” This was, at most, an acknowledgment thatPersona 6is being worked on in some capacity. Looking back at the release cycles of previous entries, it’s no surprise that expectations for concrete details onPersona 6are so highly sought after.
Back in 2021, though, anAtlus recruitment post confirmedPersona 6was in the worksto some degree. Director Naoto Hiraoka also discussed the pressure to surpass the critically acclaimed and belovedPersona 5withPersona 6,which is a daunting task. If anything, this explains why Atlus has been so hush-hush about the game. It could still be years away, with only brief acknowledgments existing in regard to the game.

The Long Wait for Persona 6
As of December 2022, it’s been over six years since the release of the originalPersona 5. This is actually not the longest that fans have had to wait in between mainline entries.Persona 4was originally released in 2008, a whole eight years before the release ofPersona 5. In the time between those games, fans received PSP ports forShin Megami Tensei: Persona,Persona 2: Innocent Sin,Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, and a second revamp ofPersona 3asPersona 3 Portable. They would also get the previously mentionedPersona 4 Goldenfor PS Vita, several spin-off titles, and finally the first teaser trailer forPersona 5in 2013.
With the recentrelease ofPersona 5 Royalon all platformsandPersona 3 PortableandPersona 4 Goldenfollowing suit this January, fans are certainly being kept busy revisiting their past favorites. Hopefully, this is a sign that their wait is coming to an end and news ofPersona 6will be arriving soon.
Persona 3 PortableandPersona 4 Goldenwill release on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on Jul 04, 2025.
