Summary
APokemonplayer and artist has shared an interesting design for an Alolan Meganium that’s gaining praise from fans. The concept is clever and looked to flowers for inspiration.
Meganium is the final form of Chikorita, the Gen 2 starter Grass-type Pokemon. The Pokemon is a bit unique in that it’s better-known for its soothing and gentle qualities rather than being a battle-hungry Pokemon. While Meganium doesn’t have a regional form of any kind, aPokemonfan has shared their idea for what one could look like.

Pokemon fan pianotat shared their design for an Alolan Meganium, and provided reasoning behind their choices. The Alolan Meganium is aPoison/Grass-type, changing up its typing a bit. The flower on its neck has changed shape and is primarily pink. A fellow fan identified the flower around its neck as that of a Anthurium plant. This choice of flower plays into the Pokemon’s new typing, as the artist explained that it’s toxic to cats, dogs, and horses. It’s a clever choice to change up Meganium’s typing without making a massive change to its overall silhouette and design.
Pokemonplayers seem to be enthusiastic about the Pokemon, with several joking about its facial expression. Others compared it toKung Fu Panda’s Master Oogway, as while it’s not a turtle, its face does bear a resemblance. Several also encouraged the artist to keep at it, as they had noted that they are a beginner artist. Pianotat may end up making more alternate forms, as they asked for fans to share any potential ideas with them.
How Alternate Forms Shifted Pokemon’s Focus
Up to a point in the Pokemon series, every game added new creatures to discover and catch, as well as adding some new evolutions to existing Pokemon lines. However, the more recent entries have also added parallels to existing Pokemon through things like regional forms. Alternate evolution methods like Mega Evolutions andDynamax or Gigantamaxhave also shaken up the formula. While finding new Pokemon is still the focus of many players and something to be excited about in every new release, fans of older and established Pokemon have also been enthusiastic about older designs getting unique refreshes.
At the moment, Meganium lacks any alternate form. Fans of theGen 2Pokemonstarterare hopeful that it may get some attention in future titles. The Pokemon Company may grant these fans' wishes, but in the meantime, fan art like this helps to tide players by.
