Ogerpon Could Fill the Evil Legendary Archetype While Directly Impacting The Teal Mask’s Story
Evil Legendaries did exist inScarlet and Violet’s base game, though their roles weren’t as entwined with the plot.The Legendary Quartet, otherwise known as the four Treasures of Ruin, were optional content for players to discover, tying into Paldea’s open-world exploration. While their designs and lore were compelling enough for players to seek them out through the region’s scattered stakes, the fact that their villainous natures were tied to the past rather than the present made it so that they could be ignored without major narrative consequence.
WithThe Teal Mask’s Kitakami, it appears that Ogerpon will be an evil Legendary that acts as a singular threat; footage from the DLC’s trailer shows two new characters, Carmine and Kieran, speaking about its role in the village’s past. It is said that Ogerpon once attacked the village, where the three guardians, Okidogi, Fezandipiti, and Munkidori helped to ward it off. Given that the DLC will see Ogerpon return, it could be that the player will have to work with the three to stop another attack from occurring, paving the way for the main story’s conflict.
This role could mark Ogerpon as a villain with a direct influence on Kitakami’s people. This contrasts with what was seen in the base game, as Paldea’s citizens weren’t acutely aware of the dangers thatArea Zero’s time machine posed. After all, the threat of the Great Crater was contained through the efforts of Nemona, Penny, Arven, and the player before having a detrimental effect on the region. Similarly, freeing the Treasures of Ruin from their shrines didn’t cause a negative reaction, though the implications of them roaming about the earth should be dire.
