Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s upcoming DLC, The Teal Mask, promises a ton of exciting new content. The Teal Mask takes place in the land of Kitakami, where players will be taking a school field trip to the Japanese-inspired region and celebrating the annual festival that takes place there. Along with a new story,Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC will also present a whole new area to explore, meaning there will be both new and returning Pokemon to catch and battle across Kitakami. But Game Freak should do something bold in this DLC that might spice up the story and exploration: a proper return of the Hisuian starters.
The Teal Mask is a great opportunity to reintroduce the Hisuian starters into thePokemongames. Not only would it be a pleasant surprise for players who loved them fromPokemon Legends: Arceus, but it would be a chance for those who never playedPokemon Legends: Arceusto obtain them. Although the Hisui starters will be transferable throughPokemon Homewhen it’s available, not everybody has playedPokemon Legends: Arceus, so there needs to be another method of obtaining them somehow. Game Freak needs to be creative on how to incorporate the Hisuian forms of Typhlosion, Decidueye, and Samurott into the Paldea region through the DLC.

How Would The Hisuian Starters Fit Into the Teal Mask Story?
To incorporate the Hisuian starters into the story of the Teal Mask, there would have to be some sort of connection with time, considering that the Hisuian forms of Typhlosion, Decidueye, and Samurott are ancient, alternate versions of their usual appearances. Thankfully, thePokemongames contain many strange phenomena that could justify the presence of Hisuian forms in the modern setting. Similar to to time travel andmass outbreaks fromPokemon Legends: Arceus, there could be space-time distortions that cause Pokemon from the past to make appearances in modern Kitakami.
The DLC could take an approach similar toPokemon Sword and Shield’s Isle of ArmorDLC by having the players be ‘gifted’ a new starter Pokemon similar to how Kubfu was bestowed to players. Players could start off the DLC on their field trip alongside the new characters, Carmine and Keiran, exploring Kitakami. The trio could venture out into the forest, coincidentally encountering the three starters Cyndaquil, Rowlet, and Oshawott, and the three seem to have no owner. The player could then choose one of the starters, with Carmine and Keiran following suit as they’re the new rivals. That is one option, at least.

Other Pokemon That Could Be Found Around Kitakami
To keep consistency across the DLC, the other Hisuian Pokemon should also make appearances around Kitakami, not just the starters. The DLC will most likely come with an expanded Pokedex, so players will have to catch new and returning Pokemon, including the Hisuian ones like Ursaluna, Basculegion, and Hisuian Braviary. To be generous to the players, the other Hisuian starters that were not chosen should also be found roaming around Kitakami, allowing for an easier path to complete the DLC Pokedex and for players to collect and shiny hunt more easily.
Although the Hisuian starters are just a few Pokemon fans might be looking forward to returning, there are already rumors of new types of Pokemon to be found in The Teal Mask DLC. There have been speculations of new Tera Forms to be added to the DLC, possibly changing the appearances and types of certain Pokemon. Maybe certain Tera Types could lead to a different Pokemon evolution, such as a Tera-Fighting-Type Dartrix could lead it to evolve in Hisuian Decidueye, although it’s not that plausible. There are still not a lot of details regarding the new Tera Forms out there, but players should expect the return of Hisuian Pokemon. After all, Game Freak has been teasing their return with the most recent7-Star Tera Raids involving Typhlosion, Decidueye, and Samurott.
