As part of an upcoming tournament livestream,Pokemon SwordandShieldplayers can obtain a special evolution item for Galarian Slowking that normally takes more effort to collect. For players without access toSwordandShield’s Expansion Pass DLC, this is one of the only ways to obtain the item.
One of the best-received additions toPokemon SwordandShieldis the Galarian variants of older Pokemon. Although 2016’sPokemon SunandMoonwere the first to introduce regional forms forsome ofPokemon’s most recognizable monsters, the latest games take things a step further. For example,SwordandShieldhave some new evolutions that are exclusive to regional forms, like Obstagoon for the Galarian Zigzagoon line. Some regional variants also evolve using different methods than their original forms.

The livestream of South Korea’s upcomingPokemon SwordandShieldCrown Tournament will reveal a code that, when redeemed, provides players with a Galarica Wreath. If a Galarian Slowpoke is traded while holding this item, it will evolve into Galarian Slowking. Normally, this item is time-consuming to obtain. Players need to collect 15 Galarica Twigs to exchange for a Galarica Wreath. In contrast, theevolution item required for Slowpoke’s alternate evolution, Slowbro,can be obtained for only eight Galarica Twigs.
It’s important to note that the promotion will only be active for 24 hours, ending at 9:59 a.m. ET on December 20. This is not the first time that international fans have had to act fast to benefit from a South KoreanPokemonpromotion. Back in August,fans could redeem codes for an Amoongussthat was both Shiny and competitively optimized.
Galarian Slowking is a worthwhile Pokemon for any Doubles team, given its exclusive Ability Curious Medicine. When it is sent out onto the field, it resets its partner’s stats back to normal if they have been altered. However, this may not rank amongthe best Pokemon Abilities, given that it resets all stat changes, including boosted stats. This means that players will need to plan carefully before sending Galarian Slowking into battle.
The high frequency of international distributions reflectsPokemon SwordandShield’s emphasis on making competitive play easier to access than ever. The new games have streamlined the process of optimizing Pokemon with the right stats and Abilities, especially throughthe new Ability Patch item. With the Ability Patch, any Pokemon with a Hidden Ability can gain access to it. Thanks to the new distribution and items like the Ability Patch, players will soon be able to craft a Galarian Slowking primed for high-level play.
