The world ofPokemon Sword and Shieldis a rather large region. While it might not be loaded to the brim with content, the number of unique locations makes for an exciting journey. Players are brought to different locales and given the opportunity touncover cool secretsand catch many different Pokemon. For type specialists, it can be hard to find Pokemon that fit their specific need.

Fans of electricPokemonmay struggle to find their favorite type in the wild. Although some are hard to miss, many are hidden behind weather requirements and are in unexpected places. For those in need of an electric type to round out their team, or are simply looking to catch ‘em all, here are some great locations to start looking.
8Stony Wilderness
In the upper-half ofthe Wild Areais theStony Wilderness. There are many ways to easily get to this spot, but the fastest is to take the flight point to Hammerlocke Hills and head south. This area is mostly home to ground types, ghosts, and the occasional oddity. Despite that, if the weather is right, trainers can also find some common electric types.
The easiest to find isthe ever-popularPikachu, who appears in both rain and thunderstorm conditions. Exclusive to thunderstorms, however, areYamperandToxel. Yamper can be found in a number of spots, but Toxel is rather hard to find in the wild. If the free Toxel egg didn’t hatch into a desired partner, then this is the spot to start looking for a fresh catch.
7West Lake Axewell
One of the first areas players can explore in the Wild Area isWest Lake Axewell. Following the western portion of the map after leading the Meetup Spot leads to this area. This is a great spot to find water-types roaming around, both on the water and on the land nearby. However, it’s also a spot to find some electric Pokemon. After waiting for a thunderstorm, there are a few different options.
The most common isElectrike, which can be found roaming or in the grass as a random encounter.Joltikcan be found as well, but only as a rare encounter in the grass. Once the player gets access to the Rotom Bike’s surfing upgrade,Chinchoucan be found in the water. Chinchou can be found in a few different spots, so it might not be ideal to wait to find it here.
6Giant’s Mirror
Just north of Stony Wilderness isGiant’s Mirror. This location is home to a few patches of water, some strange stone monuments, and a lot of Pokemon. While some are repeats, there is one Pokemon that can be hard to find that is in this location. They also don’t all require a thunderstorm, which is convenient.

The first isChinchou, which can be easily obtained through fishing in any weather. In a thunderstorm,Joltikis the common encounter in the grass, which makes it easy to find here.Helioptile, the electric lizard from Kalos, also shows up in this location. Finally, if the weather is a snowstorm, trainers can findVikavoltas a special encounter in the overworld. Be wary, as it will be dangerous to fight at a low level.
5Lake of Outrage
The location in the base game that has the greatest concentration of electric Pokemon is theLake of Outrage. As one of the last areas the player gets access to, there are tons of high level Pokemon to catch. The weather greatly changes which kinds of Pokemon can be encountered in this section of the map, so keep an eye out for changes to find new Pokemon.
For electric Pokemon, there are many different encounters.Lanturncan be found in all weather through fishing, similar to Chinchou in other areas. Once a thunderstorm hits, powerful electric Pokemon flock to this region.GalvantulaandBoltundboth make appearances, as expected. Some rarer encounters includeMorpeko, the dark-type Pika-clone, andRotom.Rotom is a rare encounter in this location.Jolteontakes the spot of the Eeveelution in this location, and can be caught straight-up without the need ofan adorable Eevee.Finally, in the snow,Togedemaruis able to be obtained away from its fellow electric brethren.
4Forest of Focus
InThe Isle of Armor DLC, a whole new Wild Area was added, including new Pokemon and new challenges. This added plenty of new locales to encounter some special electric types. The first spot of interest is theForest of Focus. A winding forest that’s loaded with grass and water types, electric Pokemon can be coaxed out through, of course, a bit of rainy weather
The first and most common isPikachu, who can be obtained here at a decent level compared to other early areas. In Overcast, Rain, or Thunderstorms,Emolgawill make an appearance. It can also be found through shaking berry trees. Finally,Luxraycan be obtained as a special encounter during thunderstorms. It’s rather strong, but saves the time of leveling a Shinx up.
3Challenge Beach
The rest of the game has electric types hidden behind weather conditions more often than not. However, finally, solace is given to those who are willing to pay for the expansions.Challenge Beach, which surrounds the Tower of Waters, is home to many electric types in the wild without the need of special weather.

In all weather conditions, three electric types can be found in the wild and roaming around. The first isMagnemite,a new addition to the Galar region. Along with the magnet isDedenne, the fairy-type Pika-clone.Morpekocan be found as well, although both are somewhat rare. In the rain,Shinxis able to be found in the wild. These Pokemon can be found a fairly low level, making them ideal to pick up for the main campaign.
2Giant’s Bed
The second expansion,The Crown Tundra, sends the player to the frozen north. While this is a great home to ice types and a few mystical Pokemon, there are some electric types that make this place their home. In most cases, they’re repeats. However, there is one major addition that can be found in a few different spots. The first spot isGiant’s Bed, which has a central location.
This section is home to a huge variety of Pokemon. In a thunderstorm, bothGalvantulaandJolteonmake reappearances, this time at a much higher level. The new addition to be found here isElectabuzzand its evolutionary line. For those who don’t want to mess around with trade evolutions, it might be wise to wait for a special encounter and catchElectavirewithout extra hassle.
1Ballimere Lake
The last spot to explore isBallimere Lake. As the southern part of the Crown Tundra, it’s home to Pokemon that live in more temperate climates. There are many cool events that happen at this location, so it’s likely you’ll be making multiple trips. If the weather ever turns up in your favor, this is one of the last best spots to find electric Pokemon.
Those that can be found here are mostly repeats. In similar weather conditions to every other entry,Electabuzz, Boltund, Galvantula,andMorpekoare all able to be found. Not much else can be said about these encounters. However, since this area is home to a number of other events, the odds of finding the right weather conditions to encounter these four is a bit higher.
