Over the years, thePokemonfranchise has introduced a slew of interesting creatures. Some of them are interesting due to their awesome power, while others are beloved for their adorable appearance. One of the most noteworthy Pokemon is Arceus, a creature introduced inPokemon DiamondandPearl. In addition to being one of the strongest creatures around, it defies norms through its ability to change its type and gripping lore.
Despite Arceus’ elevated position among its peers, thePokemonfranchise still allows players to catch it, though it is never an easy task. Players find out more about Arceus inPokemon Legends: Arceuswhich has gamers traveling to an ancient version of Sinnoh. There, Arceus guides players on a quest to save the region.

The Legend of Arceus
According to lore, Arceus was birthed from an egg that emerged from the void. Because of this, it is sometimes referred to as the Original One, and it can be inferred that it is the oldest Pokemon of all. After hatching, Arceus proceeded to create time, which is represented by Dialga, space, which is represented by Palkia, and antimatter, which is represented by Giratina. As punishment for its destructive nature, Giratina was banished to the Distortion World whileDialga and Palkiacreated the Pokemon world before retreating to their own dimensions. Collectively, Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina are known as the creation trio.
Following this, Arceus created the lake guardians Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit which reside in Lake Acuity, Lake Verity, and Lake Valor. After the lake guardians were created, Kyogre was formed from the pressure in underwater trenches while Groudon was formed within the earth. The two created the land and sea, and they warred until they were quelled byRayquaza. Despite its immense power, Arceus has been depicted as a benevolent being that wishes to protect both humans and Pokemon.

Arceus has a striking design. The quadrupedal creature is white with a short tail that makes it look a bit like a deer. It has grey striations on its face, chest, and underside, and a golden ring around its midsection. It also has jaw-dropping stats to back up its lore. It has abase stat total of 720 which is the highest of any Pokemon. All its stats are 120, which is incredibly high. Using Plates, players can change Arceus’ type allowing it to gain a STAB with whatever move the player desires. It also learns the devastating move Judgment, which strikes with a whopping 100 power.
What About Mew?
Series veterans might remember Mew being touted as the ancestor of all Pokemon, which would clash with Arceus’ lore. It should be noted that this theory emerges fromPokemon Gold and Silverwhere the Pokedex states that its “DNA is said to contain the genetic codes of all Pokemon.” InPokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the Pokedex states that “because it can use all kinds of moves, many scientists believe Mew to be the ancestor of Pokemon.” However, this is an inference the scientists are making based on Mew’s DNA. Taking the events ofPokemon Legends: Arceusinto account, it is far more likely that Arceus is the true ancestor of all Pokemon, and there is some other reason behind Mew’s strange DNA.
Arceus is one of the most important Pokemon in the franchise’s lore, and it comes as no surprise that there is both a movie and a game dedicated to it. Thanks to its type-changing abilities, it is also a competitive team member that can easily flatten opponents. Players may seeArceus’ intricate lore expanded even furtherin futurePokemongames, hopefully including newPokemon Legendsinstallments.
