Red Dead Redemption 2’s latest update is now live on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. While patch 1.31 is nothing too spectacular, it is good to see that Rockstar is still maintaining the game even five years later and several months afterRed Dead Online’s last significant gameplay update.
Rockstar Games released its open-world action-adventure gameRed Dead Redemption 2in 2018. Technically the third game in theRed Deadseries, the game takes place in 1899 during the closing days of the Wild West. Players step into the boots of outlaw Arthur Morgan after his gang finds themselves on the run following a botched heist. Players are free to explore the open world, engaging in activities including hunting, horse riding, gunfights, and more.Red Dead Redemption 2received universal praise from critics, earning an impressive Metacritic score of 97 out of 100.

Rockstar launchedRed Dead Redemption 2’s title update 1.31 on March 23. Unfortunately, the patch notes were short and did not include a full breakdown, simply stating that this update was part of the game’s regular maintenance. It reportedly focuses primarily on security issues forRed Dead Redemption 2, but the information is otherwise limited. However, update 1.31 does not appear to be particularly large. Still, this is not the first time Rockstar gaveRed Dead Redemption 2a major security patchthis year, with developers launching a 3 GB update in February.
While this update was not particularly big, it’s about whatRed Dead Redemption 2andRed Dead Onlineplayers should expect at this point in the game’s life cycle. Rockstar had hoped thatRed Dead Onlinewould see similar long-term success toGrand Theft Auto Online. Unfortunately, it did not prove to be the success that developers were hoping for, withRed Dead Online’s development winding down in 2022. Since then, the game has been relegated to maintenance mode, with developers moving on to the upcomingGrand Theft Auto 6.
Rockstar used the game’s final content update to adda goodbye message toRed Dead Redemption 2’s credits. This confirmed that developers were indeed stepping away from the title, not counting the minimum upkeep necessary to keep its online functions working and address problems as they come up. Of course, the game hasn’t been shut down, andRed Dead Onlinestill has regular events and an active player base. However, the game isn’t receiving any new content. Minor updates like the one from yesterday are pretty much all that players can expect.
