During Sony’s most recent State of Play event, the long-rumoredResident Evil 3remake was finally announced. The game was shown off with a new trailer that highlighted some of the characters that will be featured in the story, and teased the threat of the Nemesis monster. However, there was some other interesting information revealed aboutResident Evil 3during the State of Play, mainly that the game is one in the same with “Project Resistance,” which is now known asResident Evil: Resistance.
A few months ago, Capcom revealed theProject Resistance multiplayerResident Evilgame, which features asymmetric gameplay and some popular characters like the Mr. X tyrant. Fans were disappointed when they realized it wasn’t a newResident Evil Outbreak, and it not being the rumoredResident Evil 3remake was also met with some backlash. However, it’s been revealed that Project Resistance is merely the multiplayer component forResident Evil 3remake.

This means thatResident Evil 3not only has a campaign for players to go through, but a full-fledged asymmetric multiplayer mode as well that features its own selection of brand new playable characters. This should go a long way in boosting the replay value ofResident Evil 3, especially if the game retains some of the other bonus game modes that were present in the original release.
Similarly toResident Evil 2, the original version ofResident Evil 3featured a bonus game mode that players could unlock by finishing the game. InResident Evil 3, it’s The Mercenaries: Operation Mad Jackal, which puts players in the role of an Umbrella operative who has to escapeRaccoon City. SinceResident Evil 2retained all of the major bonus content from its original release, it would be surprising for Capcom to shortchange fans when it comes toResident Evil 3.
Resident Evil 3won’t be at The Game Awards 2019, so it’s unclear at this point when more information on the game will become available. However, with theResident Evil 3remake release dateset for June 18, 2025, Capcom only has four more months to reveal more about the game, so fans should expect new information sooner rather than later.
Resident Evil 3will launch on June 22, 2025 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
