Capcom breathed new life into its iconicResident Evilfranchise withResident Evil 7andResident Evil Village, while also setting a new standard for remakes with 2019 and 2020’sResident Evil 2andResident Evil 3Remake,respectively, the likes of which also influenced the upcomingDead Spaceremake. WithResident Evilas successful as ever, Capcom is looking to continue its momentum by releasing moreResident Evilgamesevery year, one of which is reportedly theResident Evil 4 Remake.
Ideally, theResident Evil 4 Remakeshould follow Capcom’s long lineup of iconic games that demands a remake, and given the multiple rumors and leaks, it seems that is the case. However, a prolonged silence with no genuine update also begs the question of whether theResident Evil 4 Remakeis real or just a myth at this point in time.

The State of Resident Evil 4 Remake
Capcom has had a busy 2021 with big releases likeResident Evil Village,Monster Hunter Rise, andMonster Hunter Stories 2, all releasing in close proximity. Interestingly, Capcom’s data breach from last year suggests that the company has plans to release one more big title this fall. This alleged project is evidently calledResident Evil Outbreak, akaResident Evil Revelations 3, and will be a timed Nintendo Switch exclusive when it releases this fall. However, with a no-show at E3 2021, many assumed that the aforementioned title got delayed.
Video game delays have been at an all-time high, unfortunately due to the ongoing pandemic and developers working from home. Like most AAA companies, Capcom has suffered significantly as well, with its mysterious new IPPragmatagetting pushed from 2022 to 2023. In a time like this, it’s hard to predict when a big-budget AAA game would release, irrespective of the time it has spent in development.

Resident Evil 4 Remakewas allegedly targeting Q4 2022 release window, with development reportedly starting in 2018. However, new reports about the game’s development rebooting surfaced not long after. Add to that the impact of the ongoing pandemic, and it seems theResident Evil 4 Remakeisn’t releasing any time soon.
Dusk Golem, a source of reliable information on theResident Evilseries, also recently hinted that theResident Evil 4 Remakewould not be meeting its supposed 2022 deadline. Replying to a fan on Twitter who believes that theResident Evil 4 Remakewould launch in 2022, he says, “You’re free to think that, but you’re going to end up disappointed.” Golem’s comment further solidifies the fact thatResident Evil 4 Remakeis indeed still far away.
When to Expect Resident Evil 4 Remake
If the info gathered fromCapcom’s data breachis anything to go by, the company has plenty of other big projects in development that are scheduled to release beforeResident Evil 4 Remake. Aside fromResident Evil Outbreak, a much-requested sequel to 2012’s fantasy RPGDragon’s Dogma,Street Fighter 6, and a newMega Mangame will all apparently release before theResident Evil 4 Remake.
All these games are new entries in some of Capcom’s most notable franchises and deserve their own spotlight, separate from the looming shadow ofResident Evil 4 Remake. Even if all these games happen to release in 2022, which seems unlikely, theResident Evil 4 Remakestill might not be out until late 2023 or early 2024.
Resident Evil 4is one of Capcom’s most critically acclaimed titles, and given the impact the company has had with its recent remakes, it’s no surprise that it wants as much time needed to craft a well made remake ofResident Evil 4. WithDead Space Remakecurrently in development exclusively for next-gen consolesand PC,Resident Evil 4 Remakehas all the more reason to go all in and give fans a truly spectacular experience that is a visually and mechanically enhanced version of its 2005’s counterpart by a long stretch.
