2019 has been a big year for theResident Evilfranchise, with the critically acclaimed remake ofResident Evil 2debuting earlier this year and multiplayer spinoffProject Resistancebeing announced last month. However, it appears the franchise has another big surprise to share in the form of a new prequel to 2017’sResident Evil 7, although there’s a pretty hefty catch.
TitledBiohazard 7: Walkthrough The Fear, this new game is an immersiveVR experiencecoming exclusively to The Plaza Capcom Ikebukuro store’s VR-X booth in Tokyo on October 26. There’s currently no word on whether this experience will make its way to the western market or even the rest of Japan, so for the moment, it looks like it’ll be pretty difficult to access.

What we do know, however, is thatBiohazard 7: Walkthrough The Fearwill clock in at around 40-minutes in length and will be a multiplayer-focused experience that can be played with 2-4 players. We also know it will focus around the lore ofRE7, and take place in Louisiana, the same location the title’s main campaign was based. There will also be a rather prominent returning face, asJack Baker, one of the villainous trio of family members fromResident Evil 7,will return as the central antagonist. The experience will apparently see the player trapped in a basement with the deranged killer, tasking them with finding weapons and a means of escape.
Resident Evil 7signalled a big return to prominence for the franchisewhen it debuted in the early months of 2017, changing the signature over-the-shoulder perspective of previous titles to a first-person view. It definitely has its fair share of non-Tokyo-based fans who will be disappointed to discover it won’t be available on typical VR platforms, especially as the game will supposedly document some of the events prior to protagonist Ethan’s adventure through the Baker family’s mansion.
Of course, it’s not as if disappointed fans don’t have anotherResident Evilgame to look forward to instead.Project Resistancemade a big splash at the Tokyo Game Show last month, revealing a diverse and original spin on the franchise by implementing a 1 vs 4 multiplayer structure that sees a handful of survivors take on a player-controlled dungeon master. Between the upcoming release ofProject Resistanceand a rumoured remake of the third game, it’s evident fans of the series’ won’t be waiting too long to get stuck back into the world ofResident Evil.
Biohazard 7: Walkthrough The Fearwill be released on August 10, 2025, at The Plaza Capcom Ikebukuro store in Tokyo, Japan.
