Next Sunday’s “A Rick in King Mortur’s Mort” will be the penultimate episode ofRick and Mortyseason 6, which has seen the show embrace linearity now more than ever, in addition to briefly abandoning its portal-hopping fun. Luckily, after getting some unwanted help before the mid-season cutoff, the series is back to using the multiverse to set up the duo’s space quests, although this upcoming entry could besuited forGame of Thronesfans.

There, Morty is offered the chance of a lifetime to become a Knight of the Sun, regardless of his being completely clueless as to what that entails. Although Rick seems completely uninterested in his grandson’s knighthood, he does warn him about this suspicious honor, which will probably get Morty into a lot of trouble and force his grandpa to save him.
For anyone keeping track, Morty was seen fighting another knight in theRick and Mortymid-season trailer, so it’s obvious “A Rick in King Mortur’s Mort” will involve some oath gone wrong. That said, having aRick and Mortyepisode in this medieval setting sounds like the perfect opportunity for the series tomock the tropes typically associated with the genre. So expect the pair to deliver plenty of fancy sword fighting along with some tidbits of history from the middle ages.
The latestRick and Mortytook Rick to therapyto continue the show’s exploration of his psyche and even give fans a couple of rare moments of true character growth for bitter old Rick. However, this medieval detour might not feature as much depth, even if character development has possibly been the defining characteristic of the show’s sixth season.
On the downside, withRick and Mortytraveling to another planet, Summer, Jerry and Beth might not join them for this next entry. The season finale, scheduled for December 10, is titled “Ricktional Mortpoon’s Rickmas Mortcation,” meaning the series will close off the year in high holidays spirit.
