Rockstar Games, the studio behindGrand Theft Auto, has posted a photo of Queen Elizabeth II on Twitter and stated that she was an influential leader whose presence will be missed. The post comes after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest ruling monarch and one of the most prominent individuals in global politics. The Queen was ninety-six years of age and passed in her Balmoral home, where many members of the Royal Family were traveling to see her.Rockstar Gamesis hardly the first company to pay tribute to the Queen, as corporations and individuals around the world have expressed their sadness at her death.
Rockstar Games is not an English company and yet, like many others, it has still decided to acknowledge the historic reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen held her position for more than seven decades, and will be succeeded by her son, King Charles III, in what many have described as the end of an era. Queen Elizabeth was the only ruler that many people in Britain have ever known. She ascended to the throne of Great Britain after her father’s death in the wake of World War II at the age of twenty-five. And, though she was young, she quickly dedicated herself to serving her nation. Over the years, she relinquished control of many English colonies, engaged in cheritable work, and even helped pass at law which states that the succession to the throne will no longer be decided by gender, but by age. She was also known for her humor, from acting in a skit with James Bond todrinking tea with Paddington.
Many companies, in addition to Rockstar, have made tributes to the Queen. Among them are English organizations,such as Jaguar Carsand Bentley, as well as news outlets internationally. The statement about the Queen’s passing, however, was not necessarily a surprise. It had been made public that Elizabeth II was under medical supervision and that she’d been having health issues in the days before her passing. A funeral service for the monarch will be held on September 19th, an event which will likely garner a massive audience.
