With 2020 now just a few weeks away, discussion over the next generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft has begun to heat up. For now, Microsoft continues to bevague about Project Scarlettbut it’s clear that the company is aiming to come out of the gates much stronger than it did with the Xbox One. New rumors regarding the next gen console have begun to circulate and if true, Microsoft may have a powerhouse system on its hands.

The latest information comes from Nibellion on Twitter who relayed the details from Windows Central. According to the rumors, Project Scarlett represents two differentMicrosoftconsoles, something fans have heard in the past. The first SKU, codenamed Anaconda, is going to be the higher end model and multiple sources reveal it’ll be coming with 12 teraflops of computing power.

The second model, codenamed Lockhart, is going to be the moreaffordable option and will likely be digitalonly. Because of this, it is launching with only 4 teraflops. Both systems will have 16 GB of RAM and eight CPU cores targeting around 3.5GHz, though Anaconda will reach a bit higher per core. However, the more impressive element to both system is that they’ll be utilizing NVMe SSD proprietary tech to increase read speeds and drastically  reduce load times, if not removing them entirely.

While fans should take these numbers with a grain of salt considering they’re just rumors, if true, this marks a huge leap forward for the box brand. For a bit of perspective, theXbox One X only has 6 teraflops, while the One S clocks in at only 1.4. The One X also only had 9GB of RAM available for games and the OS. With all of this new data, Microsoft appears to be positioning Anaconda to be four to five times better than the Xbox One X.

While Sony has been a bit more open with regards to its plans for the PS5, many are expecting Microsoft to begin its marketing efforts in 2020 if not a full reveal before then. In fact, Phil Spencer recently confirmed that he is activelyusing a Project Scarlett console at his homeas it has become his primary source for games and connecting with the community. Better yet, he also confirmed that the Elite Series 2 controller works on it as well, which is a good sign for fans who are going to be making the jump from the Xbox One to the next Microsoft console.
