DespiteThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimbeing over a decade old, fans are still returning to the ice-cold land of the Nords and creating fresh experiences in the RPG, largely due to the assistance of mods. Mods forSkyrimhave been around since the game first launched, and as the years have gone by, more elaborate works have come out of the modding community. From letting players soar across the map on aglider fromBreath of the Wildto giving them their own dragon forms,Skyrimmods have accomplished a lot of wacky things previously unavailable in the game.
However, some mods don’t aim at adding strange and interesting mechanics into the game. Instead, they simply try to tweak the systems that are already in place to makeSkyrimas good a game as it can be. Two new mods, entitled the Skyrim Compass Navigation Overhaul and Infinity UI, seek to do just that. Both of these mods are available on the Nexus and work in tandem with one another, seeking to overhaul the user interface, or UI, ofSkyrim.

Infinity UI doesn’t change the user interface itself, but it does allow modders to completely overhaul individual UI elements without those changes conflicting with the work of others. This means thatSkyrimplayers will no longer suffer through the game crashing when two UI mods are incompatible. The Skyrim Compass Navigation Overhaul changes how the compass works inSkyrim, making it more akin to the navigation tools found inHorizon: Zero Dawn,The Witcher 3, andGod of War. This changes the waySkyrim’slocationsare shown to the player, allowing them to see how far away they are from a point on the map.
The Skyrim Compass Navigation Overhaul also allows players to see the name of a current objective, so that they know why they’re venturing all the way to High Hrothgar, for example. This isn’t the first time aSkyrimmod has taken some inspiration fromThe Witcher 3or other open-world titles. Previously, a mod forSkyrimadded the various horses found inThe Witcher 3to the game, letting players venture around the map on a steed other than the stocky, Shire-like breeds that are found in the land of the Nords.
As well as revamping the UI forSkyrimand allowing players to use a compass that tells them how far away they are from their objectives, other mods have been overhauling different systems of the game. For example, a recentcombat mod forSkyrimchanged the way the system worked in the RPG, making it much more like modern titles such asGod of WarandElden Ring.
