The titular kingdom of theElder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis a land of dragons, giants, epic vistas, and of course, mead, the kingdom’s classic beverage. And while the generic Nord Mead goes back to theBloodmoonexpansion forMorrowind,Skyrimintroduced players to the rival Honningbrew and Black-Briar Meaderies.
Located just outside the early-game city of Whiterun, the Honningbrew Mead is among the first locations many players will discover inSkyrim. And while most players will probably move on after a quick look around, one decided to find out how many bottles of mead the business has on hand.

Reddit user Difficult-Lion-5507 recently posted a photo of his inventory menu after gathering up every bottle of Honningbrew Mead in the Meadery. He ended up with an answer of “approximately 368 bottles.” Many of these are in the otherwise inaccessible boilery area players visit duringSkyrim’s somewhat villainous Dampened Spirits quest. However, he still counted those bottles toward the final total.
For anyone wondering why he said “approximately,” many of these bottles are randomized loot from the barrels stored around the Meadery. The barrels in the main building may have anywhere from 0 to 4 bottles. Meanwhile, the barrels in the Boilery may contain up to ten. Therefore, the actual number can vary wildly from one player to the next. The Elder Scrolls Wiki records the maximum possible amount as 406 bottles or more, but 368 is a reasonable approximation. However, that did not stop a few Reddit users from joking that Difficult-Lion-5507 should run through the area 100 times and come back with a mathematical average.
AnySkyrimplayers who want to check his numbers are free to do so. However, be advised that players must do so during the above-mentioned Dampened Spirits, which is part ofthe main quest forSkyrim’s Thieves Guild. This is because players will not be able to access Honningbrew Meadery’s Boilery until they start the quest. After the quest, the game replaces most bottles of Honningbrew Mead with the rival Black-Briar Meade.
For those unfamiliar with the quest, Honningbrew is a new and popular Meadery that’s emerged as a clear rival to the Black-Briar Meadery based in Riften. Refusing to tolerate this challenge,family matriarch Maven Black-Briarhires the Thieves Guild to remove Honningbrew’s owner by framing him for the attempted poisoning of Commander Caius, who leads the Whiterun city guard. While that may be a dirty thing for the Dragonborn to do, it’s a small but important step for players hoping to rebuildSkyrim’s Thieves Guild.
