One way players are keen to test their creativity in video games is via character creators, especially in games that offer a deep suite of options to mess around with. The recentElder Scrollsgames, such asThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, give players some of the most extensive options of any game, so players can truly feel they belong in the fantasy worlds brought to life by Bethesda. However, one player chose to take these tools to bring a recent film character to life by creating Alexander Skarsgard’s titular warrior fromThe Northmanfor their latest playthrough.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimwas the last mainline entry in the long-runningElder Scrollsseries and is set in the titular region of Skyrim, the mountainous, northernmost area of Tamriel once inhabited by dragons. Players take on the role of a Dragonborn, a mortal being born with the heart of a dragon, who is tasked with stopping Alduin, one of the last living dragons prophesied to destroy Tamriel. The game remains one of Bethesda’s most popular titles in the company’s history, reflected in its release across three generations of consoles.

While theDragonbornis a general title given to the player’s character, who or what that character is is up to the player. Reddit user Negative-Juan’s most recent creation, as mentioned above, took inspiration from the 2022 historical epicThe Northman, starring Alexander Skarsgard and directed by Robert Eggers. Juan’s iteration of the film’s lead character, Amleth, is fairly faithful to the hardened warrior he grows into during the course of the film.
The post was met with near universal praise from other users in the comments section, applauding Juan for their latestSkyrimcreation. Along with praise for the character creation, most posts took the chance to voice their love ofRobert Eggers' latest film and how Juan’s character reflects their own love of the critically acclaimed historical epic.
Juan’s choice of character inspiration doesn’t feel out of place in the world ofTamriel, either, especially in the region ofSkyrim. The human denizens of the region, known as Nords, are clearly inspired by the Nordic and Viking cultures of medieval Northern Europe in their presentation. Bethesda wasn’t shy to keep this only to the humans, though, as most of the other races inhabitingSkyrimalso draw inspiration from these cultures, whether it be in the regional elves' art or the raiding parties roving the land.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis currently available on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
