Confirmation concerningSpider-Man: Miles Morales' supervillain has finally arrived.Insomniac Gamesrevealed that the Tinkerer would indeed be the big-bad that Miles faces in his upcoming origin story. Insomniac also touched a little more on the conflict taking place in the game, and in doing so, may have possibly revealed what fans can expect out of its conclusion.
Insomniac Games' Creative Director Brian Horton made the reveal during September’s PlayStation 5 showcase event.Spider-Man: Miles Moralesreceived a new gameplay-demo trailerhere, and while providing context for what was happening in the trailer, Horton revealed that the Tinkerer would beSpider-Man: Miles Morales' supervillain.

In the past, Horton discussedSpider-Man: Miles Morales' storyin an interview with the PlayStation Blog, where he revealed that the game would revolve around Miles finding himself in the middle of a war between an energy corporation and a high-tech criminal army. During the showcase, Horton revealed the names of these two factions. The energy corporation is called “Roxxon,” and the high-tech criminal army is called “The Underground.”
The Tinkerer is the Underground’s leader, and inSpider-Man: Miles Morales, one of his goals is to steal an experimental energy source from Roxxon called New Form. The demo trailer revolves around the Underground assaulting Roxxon on the Broadway bridge over this energy, and Miles trying to save as many people he can from the resulting devastation.
The conflict between theTinkerer and Roxxoncomes straight out of the comics from Marvel’s Ultimate universe. In them, the Tinkerer, whose real name is Elijah Stern, used to work for Roxxon, but was fired from the company so that it could take all the credit for his research on turning Vibranium into a power source. The Tinkerer then wagged war on Roxxon by hiring supervillains to help him torment his former boss.
Now, Insomniac Games doesn’t state why the Tinkerer is fighting Roxxon inSpider-Man: Miles Morales, but it’s probably safe to assume that it’s over a reason similar to the comics'. If so, then the outcome of the conflict for the Tinkerer might be predictable. Spoilers ahead.
In the comics, Elijah Stern, of course, loses. But Nick Fury gives him the choice of working for S.H.I.E.L.D or dying. Insomniac will probably take a different approach to the story’s ending, but the possibility ofNick Fury making a cameoappearance inSpider-Man: Miles Moralesis very likely with the Tinkerer being the game’s primary supervillain.
