In a post on Reddit, a user known as illegally_a_fox showcased the Living Hat they found while clearing the land around their farm. According to the Reddit user, they made the lucky find within the first minute of starting a new save. Fortunately, the player included a screenshot of their game, providing evidence of the impressive event. Not only was the Living Hat visible in their inventory but the date and time were in the top right corner. Based on the image, it was 6:40 a.m. on the first Monday ofSpring inStardew Valley, making this within the first minute of the player’s time after the introduction.
The rarity of this early-game discovery has been evidenced by the impressive response ofStardew Valleyfanson Reddit, with many upvoting the post. In the comments section, users noted the exceptionally slim odds of finding a Living Hat in the game, let alone in the first minute after finishing the introduction. A number of users claimed to have thousands of hours in the game without ever finding the elusive cosmetic. In fact, players have a 0.01% chance of nabbing the Living Hat as a drop from a defeated Wilderness Golem and a 0.001% chance of finding the item while cutting weeds. While both ways of obtaining the hat are very rare, the fact that illegally_a_fox found theirs through the less likely method of cutting weeds makes it even more impressive.
While finding a Living Hat early in a playthrough is doubtlessly notable, it is not the only incredible discovery made by players. Despite being developed by a single person,Stardew Valleyis packed with secretsand rare items to find while playing. This is part of the reason for the continued popularity of the game even seven years after its initial launch. In addition, it is worth pointing out that the developer, ConcernedApe, has been teasing the upcoming release of Update 1.6, which will add even more secrets and items. With this in mind, players will likely continue to make discoveries in theStardew Valleyfor the foreseeable future.
