Summary

Starfieldhas seen plenty of incredible outposts made by its community, and the latest example is a covert base built inside the crater of the Moon. ThoughEarth inStarfieldis a desolate wastelandon a level that even puts theFalloutgames to shame, players can visit all sorts of landmarks from humanity’s history, such as the Pyramids or the Empire State Building. In a similar vein, exploring the Moon can give players the opportunity to find the original Apollo landing site.

While it could be argued that destroying Earth allowed Bethesda an easy way out in not having to develop an urban landscape for the homeworld of humankind, the main story heavily tackles the fate of Earth through the enigmatic Artifacts and the Starborn. As a result, the Sol system is ironically seen as a backwater outpost for theUnited Colonies inStarfield, either inhabited by industrial workers on Cydonia, or being little more than a museum in Titan’s case.

A player named Thunder-_-Bear thus decided to make the Moon the perfect place to build their home base, sharing the result on the mainStarfieldsubreddit. The outpost may be rather humble compared to the more grandiose city-style layouts that someStarfieldplayers have made, but its perfect placement easily compensates for the lack of structural complexity. Sometimes, simpler is better. The landing pad for the outpost is located in the middle of a large crater, while the main habitation structures are hugging its walls.

Outposts inStarfieldtend to have little use outside of generating resources to help out a player’s finances in the early game, so most fans tend to lean towards form over function. Unfortunately, outpost layouts do not transfer over into New Game Plus inStarfield, which means that players lose all their hard work whenever they achieve Unity. Though some are hoping that Bethesda develops a way to save ship designs and outpost layouts in a future patch, it has done little to thwartStarfieldplayers from creating ambitious home bases using the game’s rudimentary tools.

Though it remains to be seen how Bethesda will develop the game in the coming years,Starfieldwill be launching Shattered Spacein 2024 as its first expansion pack. Given that House Va’ruun has been woefully explored compared to the other two governments that make the Settled Systems their home, some players are hoping that the DLC will introduce a set of Va’ruun-themed content toStarfield. Hopefully, Bethesda will consider adding more building variety to the outpost system inStarfield, as that would allow inspired builds such as the aforementioned moon crater base to reach new heights.
