Summary

OneStarfieldplayer managed to engineer a faithful recreation of the Unreliable spacecraft fromThe Outer Worldsin Bethesda’s latest RPG. Their achievement expands the already extensive list ofamazing custom ships thatStarfieldplayers have builtsince the game’s release.

As is the case with all of Bethesda’s contemporary RPGs,Starfieldcomes in the form of a massive sandbox that provides players with plenty of opportunities to partake in a wide variety of activities.Starfield’s shipbuilding mechanicsare one of the game’s most intricate systems, allowing for some truly complex designs and in-depth customization.

In yet another testament to the sheer flexibility of this feature, Reddit user TotallyCaz recently managed to recreate the Unreliable starship fromThe Outer WorldsinStarfield. Their design is instantly evocative of the iconic spacecraft from Obsidian Entertainment’s 2019 RPG, not least because of its twin half-cylindrical engines flanking a compact yet robust hull with pill-shaped cargo holds.

The overall stats of this Unreliable replica also make it a stylish early-game alternative toStarfield’s Frontier ship, the very first spacecraft that players will unlock during their adventures across The Settled Systems. That’s largely because both vessels share the same crew capacity of two people, with this Unreliable recreation having around 20% smaller cargo capacity and twice the jump range, as well as seven times stronger shields. The ship itself appears to be a proof of concept, as TotallyCaz did not equip it with any weaponry, although the vessel has plenty of room for armaments.

This weaponless version of the ship has an in-game value of just over 55,000 credits, so mimicking its design should be feasible even during the early game, when currency is still fairly scarce. The only barrier to using this exact same specification in the opening hours ofStarfieldis the ship’s C reactor class, which requires four points of investment into the game’s Piloting skill. However, since the spacecraft weighs under 1.4 tons, it should be possible to swap out its reactor with something a bit more modest and accessible to low-level characters.

Although TotallyCaz did not provide a detailed breakdown of the engineering process behind their Unreliable replica, the screenshots that they shared show no indication of them using any kind of mods to realize this design. The vessel itself is far from the first impressive custom ship that the game’s fandom authored since the turn of October, having been preceded by aStar Trek-inspiredStarfieldship, a recreation of the F-22 fighter jet, and a diverse assortment of other unique designs.

Starfieldis available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
