God of War is full of memorable moments, though one of the most exciting comes at the very end of the game and served as a teaser for what is to come in the sequel. Clearly inspired by this moment, an artist andGod of Warfan named Mark Scicluna created a spectacular comic cover for the game.
The moment in question sees Thor arriving at Kratos and Atreus’ home, brandishing his hammer Mjolnir and preparing to fight as a storm gathers above the characters. An iconic visual that has had fans talking for years, many have been excited to see what the fight between Kratos and Thor will be like, wondering if it can possibly top the former’s battles with Baldur. WithGod of War: Ragnarokreleasing this year, fans will soon have their answer. For now, though, they can appreciate this artwork from Scicluna.

With the artist being a former illustrator for Rockstar Games, it makes sense that they would be incredibly talented. There are plenty of cool details to appreciate in their latest work, with the most obvious being the recreation of the scene where Thor first appears. Kratos, Atreus, andMjolnirall translate well to the vintage comic style, with the scene’s angle recreated perfectly. The choice of a vibrant blue for the sky and yellow for Thor’s lightning make the piece even more eyecatching.
However, while a comic-inspired version ofGod of War’s endingwould be cool on its own, what makes the piece spectacular is the artist’s eye for detail. They go above and beyond when it comes to making the art feel like an old school comic cover, as the text boxes reading “Thor’s Mighty Hammer” and “All in Full Color” add a lot to the piece. The “Ragnarok is Coming” title is a brilliant choice, while seeing the faces of Kratos and Atreus in the top left corner should instantly feel familiar to comic book collectors.
With a 25 cent price tag and an incredibly stylishGod of Warlogo both present on the piece, there is a lot for fans of the franchise to appreciate. Unsurprisingly, there has been plenty of praise for this fan art on both Twitter and Reddit, with thousands of likes and upvotes accompanied by supportive comments that praise the artist’s style. Perhaps the coolest comment of all came fromSanta Monicaitself, as the official Twitter account for the studio replied to applaud Scicluna.
While there was somedivisiveness around Thor’s designearly on, it will be interesting to see how gamers feel once they see the character in action. Giving how much buildup there was in the original game for Thor’s appearance, his cruelty will likely make him a significant challenge for Kratos.
God of Waris available now on PC and PS4.
