Tekken 7released back in 2017 after spending close to two years in arcades. Since then, the game has had several season passes and continued content updates, but the game has not received any new content since the release of character Lidia Sobieska and the Island Paradise stage back on June 26, 2025. During EVO 2022, an extremely brief and extremely vague teaser was shown, revealing that a newTekkenproject is perhaps in the works.

TheTekkenseries has been ongoing since 1994, and this long-running fighting game franchise has established itself as one of the most popular series in the genre, withTekken 7even featuring guest character appearancesfromStreet Fighter’sAkuma,Final Fantasy 15’sNoctis, andKing of Fighters’Geese Howard. Now it looks like a newTekkengame may be on the horizon.

In a brief eight-second teaser trailer shown at EVO, thelargest fighting game tournament in the world, developer Bandai Namco seemingly confirmed a new entry in the franchise but left everyone wondering whether the game isTekken 8or perhaps a remake or remaster. The very short trailer features fan-favorite and series mainstay Kazuya Mishima in a scene from his story ending in the very firstTekkengame before transitioning to more modern-looking graphics. The words “Get Ready” appear on the screen as Kazuya smiles and his eye turns red, hinting at his devil transformation.

With this trailer as brief as it is and no word yet from Bandai Namco, it is difficult to determine what this nextTekkenproject actually is. The focus of the teaser is completely on Kazuya, and the footage shown is from the very first game in the franchise, which could hint at a remake or remaster of some sort. But when the trailer shifts to the modern graphics, it is new footage. Also worth noting is Kazuya’s red eye, which he didn’t have until the events ofTekken 4, which could imply this new entry (no matter if it is a direct sequel toTekken 7,aTekkenspin-off, or something completely different) will take place canonically after the events ofTekken 4. Tekken 8has been rumored to be in development since theNVIDIA leak back in 2021revealed the name of the title along with several other games that have yet to be announced.

EVO has been a wonderland of announcements for fighting game fans historically. With other major announcements from Bandai Namco, likeDragon Ball FighterZgetting rollback netcode, EVO would seem like the perfect place to announce the next main entry in theTekkenseries. Coupled with the NVIDIA leak detailing a lot of potential games in development, which includedTekken 8,it seems likely that this is a teaser for the next mainline game. Nothing has been confirmed yet, though, so fans will have to wait just a while longer.

Tekken 7is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
