Morbiusis not doing great when it comes to critic reviews. It is not the follow-up hit toSpider-Man: No Way Homeor even theVenommovies. Of the two though, it probably has more in common with the twoVenomflicks, neither of which received high marks from reviewers. However, there are generally considered to be fun enough because of Tom Hardy’s performance as both Eddie Brock and the titular Venom.

In that sense, this arguably makes them good bad movies. Sadly,Morbiusdoesn’t quite reach those heights of being so bad that it’s good. It falls somewhere in the middle. The following quotes are some examples of how the latestMarvelmovie gets close though. It should perhaps go without saying, but there will be spoilers ahead.

Talking about Cosmo seems likea 90s thing. Is that joke still relevant inMorbius? Probably not, but the good doctor even jokes that his reference may be a bit outdated. The magazine has always been about chasing the latest trends from fashion tips to dietary fads.

Detective Stroud talking to Michael in Morbius

Granted, Cosmo has probably never covered death in a trendy sense, but in a world where vampires could be emerging, maybe Cosmo would cover Michael in a new light. It is a fun thing to imagine at the very least.

7“Holy Water, Really?”

Detective Stroud says this to his partner Detective Rodriguez. Throughout the movie, the two detectiveshave a good back and forth with one another. Both are smart officers, but they handle crime scenes in very different ways.

Stroud is a more by-the-book, logical thinker, whereas Rodriguez seems to be more open-minded. It’s hard to say what the universe inMorbiusis like. Is Venom a trending topic in this world? Does a Spider-Man exist? If the answer to both is yes, then prepping holy water should not be that strange.

6“You Don’t Want To See Me When I’m Hungry”

This is a joking answer Michael offers up to the two detectives in the same scene with the holy water. It is of course a play-off of the Hulk’s classic line from the films and comics, “You wouldn’t want to see me when I’m angry.”

This line is very cheesy, but Jared Letodoes his best to at least make it entertaining through his delivery. Maybe the line about hunger is not supposed to be funny, but it is great nonetheless. If Michael turned green here, it would only be funnier.

5“I’m Not That Kind Of Vampire”

About halfway through the movie Michael finally catches up with Dr. Bancroft. They sit down together in a cafe, where she proceeds to offer him some of her drink. She purposely places it in sunlight that is beaming through an open part of the window. When Michael reaches for the cup and touches the light, he recoils back as if it wounded him.

Michael then shows Dr. Bancroft that he is perfectly fine andnot a vampireaffected by cliche weaknesses. He also isn’t a vampire that sparkles in the sun and is instead a new breed for film and comics.

4“The Pretty Little Stinky Pinky”

This might be the greatest, wildest, and dumbest line inMorbius. It’s another one from Michael when he storms the money counterfeiters' hideout. He tells them he is taking over, but the leader is having none of that.

The boss lunges at Michael, who then proceeds to break this boss’ fingers one by one. When he gets to the final finger, the pinky, he says this line. Who says that in real life? It is silly but another reason why Leto does a good job with the role as he at least sells the line with enthusiasm.

3“You Ever Have 36 Beers?”

There are a few plot lines running in tandem throughoutMorbius. The first has Michael having to deal with himself turninginto a vampire. The second, closely related, has Michael having to contain Milo, who is increasingly becoming out of control.

The third plot involves the two detectives as they try to figure out if Michael is behind all of these killings. If so, what is he? Detective Rodriguez says this line to his partner when they find three bodies outside of a club, completely drained of blood. Their blood weight is equivalent to 36 beers, which is wild to imagine drinking in a single night.

2“I Find Him To Be Quite The Romantic”

Adria Arjona as Dr. Bancroft does not get to have a lot of fun inMorbius, nor does she get a lot of profound lines. This one is pretty good though. She finds the idea of Dracula romantic, which depends on the work. A lot of movies and other adaptations have him portrayed as an absolute monster. Some have him act like a tragic figure of history.

For example, the anime adaptationof the classic video game series,Castlevania, portrays Dracula as an angry god who lost his love. If it wasn’t for this loss, he would have been completely fine with leaving humans alone. Don’t push Dracula is the lesson there.

Milo in Morbius

1“We Are The Few Against The Many”

This is a reoccurring line that is exchanged between Michael and Milo throughout the film. The last time it is uttered is right before Milo kills their mentor and caregiver, Dr. Nicholas. The line references the two of them being like Spartans who were mighty in history but few in number.

This is applied to the idea of vampires emerging in the world. If Michael allowed Milo to spread this curse, their few numbers would reduce the many. Unfortunately, this plan was too evil, but Matt Smith does a good job selling the idea to the audience. Like the animeportrayal of Dracula, Milo is a tragic character.
