Extreme sports simulations have been popping up everywhere recently, and FoamPunch’sShreddersis riding that snowy wave. Designed by snowboarders for snowboarders,Shreddersbrings an authenticity that could be considered unmatched in the genre.

Although this has had an initial release on Xbox and Steam in early 2022, the game has more recently been released to additional platforms. Bringing a whole new batch of players to shred. Whilethe game has a tutorialfor the basics, players want to feel like Shaun White instead of face-planting into the white. Here are the tricks to master as quickly as possible.
10Board Control
Shredders' main movement system is all done by the analog sticks. The left stick will be the player’s body control, whilst the right stick controls the board. At first, players may have the urge to just use the left stick to guide the snowboarder downhill. However, the right stick is an invaluable tool to traverse and hit those perfect lines.
Moving left or right on the right stick determines the direction of the carve whilst on the ground, giving players way more control on the board, as well as speed.

9Setting A Spawn Point
Early on, players will learn that the likelihood of pulling off a certain trick first try will be a rarity. Or on the other side, there may be just one spot players want to repeat because it’s just so much fun.

Setting a spawn point by pressing down on the d-pad is a neat little trick to activate where the snowboarder starts when the player presses the respawn button (Circle-PS, B-Xbox). This can be implemented anywhere when players find that perfect session spot.
8Air Movement
Similarly to board control when on the ground, the same follows when in the air. Using both analog sticks in their respective directions could nab the player a whirlwind of movements.
For example, if the player held forward diagonally right with the right stick doing the same, it would pull off a front-flipping spin in that direction, netting an even bigger score when the player lands. Front flips, back flips, spinning in either direction, the snowboarder will be a floatingBeybladein no time.

7Landing Perfectly
Players could throw the snowboarder any which way in the air, but inevitably the landing comes crashing down. Taking the time to realize thephysics of the gameis part of the learning curve, but there is a way to land perfectly every time.
Within reason of physics, holding L2 (LT on Xbox) will settle thehigh-flying trick in the airand level out the snowboarder to the ground. Landing ‘Sloppy’ deducts half the score of the trick pulled off, but if players can land ‘Perfect’ it’ll double, netting a huge score.

6Grabs
The arsenal of different grabs could be argued as the most important way of getting the highest score, outside of flips and spins. Each shoulder button (L1, R1 -PS, LB, RB -Xbox) represents each hand to grab the board with.

Combining the grab with a direction of the board using the right stick will pull off a unique grab. Mixing up different grabs in a line will give players the biggest overall score. Resulting in no challenge being unbeatable.
5Stretch (In Air)
When players arefree-roaming inShredders, there are hard-to-reach tokens floating above ramps. These tokens unlock new items of clothing as well as being tied to achievements/trophies. If players are just out of reach, stretching can come in handy.
Stretching with the R2 button (RT-Xbox) extends the snowboarder out, truly making a difference when going for the tokens. Outside of that, it can be an extremely stylish flare when flipping at ramps and another way of scoring good points.

4Butter
Buttering is a technique often overlooked as it’s not as death-defying as the big jumps. However, if players need a few more thousand points to beat the score in a mission, Butter is the way forward. This could be tied to landing perfectly as they coincide.
Like a perfect landing holding L2, holding a direction with the board (right stick) at the same time when landing will pull off something akin to a ‘Manual’ intheTony Hawkseries.

3Grinds
Much likeSession: Skate Sim, Shredders’grinding is tied to the right stick. The 360 variety of the analog stick means there’s a wide array of grinds to pull off. How players approach a rail will alter the direction of the grind.
Knowing the approach and following the extensive trick guide on how to pull off a certain grind is a vital aspect ofShredders’trick list. Often courses do have a lot of ramps, but mastering the grinds in between those makes for a perfect run.

2Pre-wind
The single most important trick to learn, to get the most out of the player’s score, is the pre-wind. Pre-winding is when the player has a direction in mind before a jump and holds the analog stick in the opposite direction before jumping.

This makes the snowboarder lean one way, and when the player jumps swinging the sticks in the opposite direction makes for greater momentum in the spin/flip. An absolutely crucial trick to be the best on the board.
1Object Dropper
Not a trick in the conventional sense, but this is the biggest lesson to learn as soon as possible. When players are in drone mode, pressing Square (X- Xbox) opens the object dropper. Ramps, rails, and everything in between can be added to the map, absolutely changing the game.
Now players will be able toconquer the gapsand reach tokens by basically turningShreddersinto easy mode. The object dropper is an absolute essential for players going for the 100%.

Shreddersis currently available on PlayStation, Xbox Series S|X, and PC on Steam.
