It’s been known for quite some time that Amy Hennig’s Skydance New Media was working on a Marvel project, but it has been kept incredibly hush-hush. However, while it is likely still in early development, it seems Skydance and Marvel are ready to show fans something. Earlier today, August 15, Disney announced a newDisney and Marvel Games Showcase for September, with several games like LEGO Skywalker Saga, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and others confirmed to be there.

Furthermore, it confirmed Skydance New Media’s game would be there, though it’s likely to be a simple teaser since it’s a “sneak peek”. What’s interesting is the phrasing in this announcement, as it referred to it as a Marvel ensemble game. This means it’s likely to feature a host of heroes, likely teams, which doesn’t bode well for fans who were hoping foraDaredevilgame. Of course, while fans will likely know relatively soon, the big question is which Marvel team players will suit up as.

Skydance New Media’s Marvel Ensemble

Now, it’s not impossible Daredevil is in this game, even though he usually appears solo, if it were somehow based on Netflix’sThe Defendersor Marvel Knights. While this would be interesting, it’s not the likeliest option just because neither team is not as high profile as other Marvel games. It could also be something more akin toMarvel Ultimate Alliancethat features a plethora of charactersfrom across Marvel properties. However, given this game reportedly has a narrative focus, such a wide cast makes a good narrative much harder to accomplish. Neither of these approaches are impossible, but neither seem too likely either.

The likeliest scenario, of course, would be anotherAvengersgame. Sure, this would compete with Square Enix’sMarvel’s Avengers, but many fans would welcome a fresh take here. It’s also the definitive “ensemble” when it comes to Avengers, but it could be a unique take on this squad. The West Coast Avengers,The Young Avengers, or A-Force could all work well if done right, being just the right size for variety and a compelling narrative, without being too detached from the name. Of course, while the Avengers do seem likely, they are hardly the only big ensemble under the Marvel umbrella.

The word “ensemble” could be applied to the X-Men or The Fantastic Four, and both would likely be well-received. Both of these are beloved groups in the Marvel universe, and getting Amy Hennig’s signature narrative touch could do for them whatEidos-Montreal did withGuardians of the Galaxy–give the team a great video game story. Indeed, the wider cast of X-Men would still be manageable enough to create a narrative intense story, while The Fantastic Four could be much more personal.

Part of this comes from process of elimination too. The Guardians of the Galaxy are unlikely if only because of the recent game, and the same could be said for the Midnight Sons for the upcomingMidnight Suns. The Runaways, although seeingNico Minoru’s Staff of One in a gamewould be interesting, aren’t really high profile enough for a game adaptation, and that goes for the Eternals, the Inhumans, and the Thunderbolts too. Perhaps if the MCU does something with the Thunderbolts, this would be more possible, but the latest showing of The Eternals and the Inhumans didn’t do well with fans.

This is pure speculation of course, but if we were to weigh them by likelihood, it would look something like this:

Of course, there are other options, but X-Men, Avengers,Fantastic Four, or a game featuring multiple teams seems to be the safest bet.
