The new live-actionResident Evilshow is not doing terribly in the rankings. The show is around the 50s on Metacritic which is at least not in the red. It’s not a smash hit forNetflixlikeStranger ThingsorSquid Game, butthere are viewers that did enjoy it. The ones that didn’t are presumably longtime fans that are perhaps a bit baffled as to what this show did to the lore.

It seemingly tries to follow the games while changing a few things along the way. However, one feels about theNetflixadaptation ofResident Eviloverall doesn’t matter. There are things worth praising like some great lines, moments, and characters. There will be spoilers.
8The Monsters
The CG forthe classic monstersin the series was mostly good in the show. Strangely, the smaller creatures, like the rats and Doberman looked a little off. The bigger beasts, like the giant caterpillar and crocodile, looked great though at least for a TV show.
The Lickers and giant spiders were also captured well. The Lickers might be the best-looking monsters in season one as Netflix’sResident Evilperfectly captures what makes them horrifying. It was great seeing them again as it has been a while since they appeared in the games.

7The University
The University is a giant ship that a group of like-minded individuals decided to set up to preserve humanity’s past, present, and future. Just because the world turned intoa zombie apocalypsedoesn’t mean history should die.
Turning a library like that into a ship is a good idea for a post-apocalyptic show. It’s not an original idea exactly, but Netflix’sResident Evilputs a nice twist on things. Using a giant mutated crocodile, for one, is like keeping a nuke on board the ship. Sometimes fire must be fought with fire to keep history alive.

6Wesker Intimidating Dave
One of the greatest scenes in the show happens early on.The new Weskerfor this show is called into a meeting with the school to discuss Billie attacking another student. Wesker is not phased by this and instead puts the fear of God into his fellow parent, David as if he were a lowly worm.

“I don’t want you fired, I want you blacklisted.” That’s what Wesker says to him, and it is his best line in the show. If only Netflix’s Resident Evil had more scenes like this with Wesker.
5A Well-Rounded Soundtrack
Netflix does a good job getting music into their shows, but this adaptation is on a new level. It features current big acts like Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, and Halsey which fit the teen vibe well in the 2022 timeline. There are also lesser-known artists like X Ambassadors, Two Feet, Conan Grey, and more.
Keep an eye on these bands as they could become more popular thanks to the show. Fans have even made dedicated playlists to every song that appears even if it is only for a few seconds.

4Umbrella
How did Umbrellacome back from the dead after being destroyed? It doesn’t matter how the show fits into this series as a whole. It’s just great to see them back again as an overbearing corporation. The show nails that aspect of them perfectly. They are the epitome of evil both in 2022 and 2036. What company would be evil in a world filled with zombies? Shouldn’t they clean up their mistake?
There is a big reason why Umbrella works in Netflix’sResident Eviland that’s because of Evelyn. She’s the CEO and does have ties with one of the founding fathers of the company.

3Escaping The Prison
Richard Baxter is another Umbrella employee. His job title is never specifically stated, but he was in charge of finding Jade for Billie. Presumably, he was a higher-up despite what he may look like.
Richard may have been a villain, but he had a great final act in episode four. Not only does he make a funJill Valentine referenceas he unlocks his cell, but he kills hordes of zombies like they were nothing. Jade also has a couple of great moments in this prison escape like when she chainsaws the head off of a zombie.

2Uncle Bert
One of the biggest reveals happens in episode seven wherein they show flashbacks to a lab in the Arklay Mountains in 2005. Wesker, the one fans knowfrom the games, cloned himself three times. He kills one clone but leaves the other Albert alive along with another named Bert.
He’s more of a gentle soul but has a temper issue like when he is fed up over the lack of unlimited breadsticks at Olive Garden. Bert isn’t in season one much but hopefully, there are more chances to let him shine in season two.

1Evelyn Takes A Lipa
Evelyn has a lot of great moments in the show from cutting the head off of a rat to smoking her own son in the head after he starts to turninto a zombie. Her best scene happens toward the end of Netflix’sResident Evilwhen Jade discovers her in a darkened tent. Lights click on and Evelyn starts singing and dancing to Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now."
The only downside to this scene is that it isn’t long enough. Like Bert, hopefully, Evelyn gets more time to be wild in season two. Maybe next time she could dance to Dua Lipa’s “Levitating".
