Following a rough week filled with game cancelations and anotherSkull and Bonesdelay, Ubisoft provides a bright spot for fans by confirming thatBeyond Good and Evil 2is still in development. The French company appears to be facing a tough patch following news this week that the upcoming pirate inspired title,Skull and Bones, was getting hit with its sixth delay. The news came alongside the revelation thatUbisoft also canceled 3 unannounced games, putting their total to 7 over the past six months.
Bad news continued to pile up as Ubisoft also admitted that sales forMario + Rabbids: Sparks of HopeandJust Dance 2023did not meet expectations. Naturally, the news had a directly negative impact onUbisoft’s stock prices as the shares dropped by a significant marginand leaving investors worried. The cancelation news also left fans worried that the oft delayed Beyond Good and Evil 2 could have been one of those games that Ubisoft had given up on, especially considering that there hasn’t been a meaningful update in quite some time.

Thankfully, for those concerned, Ubisoft did provide a small update and confirming that development ofBeyond Good and Evil 2has been unaffected by recent events at the company. A spokesperson for the company elaborated that, “Beyond Good and Evil 2’s development is underway and the team is hard at work to deliver on its ambitious promise.” Unfortunately, that’s largely where the update ended, so for now, fans will have to continue to be patient.
It’s understandable for fans to be feeling a bit antsy and worried about the project. The game has been in development for around 15 years at this point, originally leaking and being teased in 2009 before going dark for a long period.Beyond Good and Evil 2would get an official announcement trailer at E3 in 2017, would see thedeparture of longtime Ubisoft employee Michel Ancel, and continue to only get small updates, typically through financial reports rather than through trailers or other media.
As rough as things may seem for Ubisoft at the moment, 2023 could be a year that helps put the company back on the right path. While there’s always room for surprise announcements,Ubisoft already has a number of high profile games for 2023includingThe Division Heartland,Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, as well as the previously mentionedSkull and Bones.Assassin’s Creed Mirageis another game on fan radars thanks to its promise to return the series to its classic formula of parkour, action, and linear storytelling.
