Within the Viking survival gameValheim, each type of wood plays an important role. To gather these four different types of wood,Valheimoffers players six species of trees across its biomes. Each type of tree becomes an important resource during a playthrough, but for those players looking for both regular Wood and Fine Wood, the Oak tree is by far their best choice.

One of the thicker trees inValheim, Oak trees grows sporadically throughout the Meadows biome but can be challenging to locate and regrow. For those players looking to farm Oak trees and gather their seeds, this guide is here to help.

How to Gather Oak Seeds

The Meadows biome is one of the better places tobuild a base inValheim, and it is the only place to find these Oak Seeds, known as Acorns, in the game. This biome is home to Beech trees, Birch trees, and the large but relatively rare, Oak tree. Locating Oak trees can be a challenge, but exploring a decent size Meadows biome should bring players to at least a few examples.

Players will need to have made a Bronze Axe or better in order to chop down this type of tree. This means players must have finished off the first boss inValheim,Eikthyr. This grants players the ability to mine both the required Copper and Tin Ore for crafting Bronze. After many strikes to the Oak tree, it should break apart and drop Wood, Fine Wood, Resin, and Acorns. The latter resource used to be quite a rare drop, but the latest patch forValheim, 0.203.10, has increased the drop rate of both Acorns and Birch seeds.

How to Grow an Oak Tree

Once gathered, Oak Acorns can be replanted and used to grow a player’s very own Oak tree. There are specific requirements before a thriving tree can be grown, however. Firstly, players need to craft a Cultivator at their Forge. The recipe forthis tool inValheimcalls for 5 Core Wood (which is dropped by Pine trees) and 5 Bronze (the combination of 10 Copper and 5 Tin at the Forge).

Once in hand, players have to cultivate an open area just like they need to createa farm inValheim. The Cultivator menu will then light up the option to plant an Acorn and create an Oak Sapling in this area. However, players need to be careful as Oak Saplings are sensitive to other items and trees being too close. Fortunately, getting close to the planted Oak Sapling will reveal its status and whether or not it needs to be planted elsewhere. From here, it is just a waiting game as Oak Acorns will grow to a full-size tree within a few in-game days.
