Mass Effect’s intricate character interactions are a significant part of what makes the franchise’s games memorable for fans. An otherwise unrelated meme based on theFast and Furiousfranchise has been circulating on the internet, and a fan’s interpretation of it involvesMass Effect.
For the uninitiated, the meme has emerged from the release ofF9, the latest installment in the big-budgetedFastsaga. The meme consists ofFast and Furiousveteran Vin Diesel, as his character Dominic Toretto, being spliced into other franchises. For example, Vin Diesel has appeared with an unsubtle crop of his face superimposed on an image fromTitanic(1997), where a caption says that “there’s always room for family.” Today, Toretto and his values toward family have recently made their way intoMass Effect.

Redditor mathiuskesla has shared a screenshot from the originalMass Effectgame, where two Geth stand opposite the Mako as it hovers in the sky. Toretto does not make an appearance in the image itself. But the fan’s caption recalls the meme directly, stating “Geth ain’t a problem when you’ve got family.” TheFastand Furiousfilm franchise has undertaken many different types of action, involving high-speed races and cinematic maneuvers performed with expensive vehicles. Considering the high stakes pursuits and stunts that Toretto and his crew have experienced in the franchise’s latest films, it is believable that the crew would utilize the Mako in some fashion if they somehow enteredthe world ofMass Effect.
Mass Effect’s M35 Mako is a six-wheeled utility vehicle that players maneuver uneasily throughout different terrains. But mathiuskesla’s Vin Diesel meme has more ties to the game than justMass Effect’s Mako vehicle. As the protagonist Shepard, players encounter a number of colorfulteammates throughoutMass Effect. Characters such as Joker, Wrex, and Liara play their respective parts on the Normandy and in the player’s squad, if they are selected to accompany the player during the game.
Similar to the recurring crew of characters that has developed over the course of theFast and Furiousfranchise,Shepard’s squad inMass Effectis a somewhat unconventional family themselves. The meme has a variety of different interpretations depending on which franchise it is used upon.Mass Effect’s Mako does not race other vehicles or execute elaborate stunts, but mathiuskesla has found a way to make the meme deeply relevant toMass Effecton a number of levels.
It is uncertain how long fans will be implementing Vin Diesel into their favorite franchises, but fans can enjoy thisMass Effectmeme in the meantime.
