Palworld’sHoocratesis aDark-type Palthat resembles an owl and is often seen walking aimlessly around. According to its Paldeck entry, Hoocrates gets lost in its own thoughts, often pondering its existence and becoming unaware of its surroundings. Despite its small stature and aloof nature, Hoocrates won’t back down from a fight, and its Dark-type arsenal of attacks could make it a dangerous Pal.
Once captured, Hoocrates can immediately become a contributing member of anyPalworldteam. While it won’t tear down enemy Pals in battle, its advantage comes from its Partner Skill, which doesn’t leave any lasting damage but instead creates a stronger team around it. Hoocrates is what one would call a good set-up Pal.

Where to Find Hoocrates in Palworld
For those who call it a night early by avoiding the colder weather and getting a good amount of sleep, you may never encounter Hoocrates. This is due to the fact thatthis Pal only roams the map during the nighttime. Once the moon goes up, these little owls begin pacing around the area, carelessly bumping into anything in their way and not paying any mind to their surroundings.
As shown on the map above, Hoocrates can be found in almost every area of the early game. Players may want to either wait tocraft a warmer peltto keep from freezing orcatch a Fire-type Pal like Foxparksbefore they begin hunting Hoocrates. Their spawn rate is quite common, too, so catching ten of these Pals in quick succession will be an easy task to complete.

Timid in nature, Hoocrates won’t bother any player walking around, and they won’t flee from anything either. If prompted to battle, Hoocrates will not back down, showing off its Dark-type attacks and demonstrating an ability to survive and thrive.
What Is Hoocrates Good For?
With a Level 1 Gathering Work Suitability, Hoocrates shouldn’t be a Pal players reach for to get work done around the base. Pals likeCattiva and Lifmunkhave it beat in utility, as they possess the same Gathering level while also being able to do multiple other tasks around the base. It can be a secondary assistant at most, but the space for Pals working is better reserved for those who can do other jobs.
Where Hoocrates' real value comes is with itsPartner Skill, Dark Knowledge. This skill can make an all Dark-type team come out stronger than usual, as itboosts Dark moves of all allieson the battlefield. With many Dark types available early on, includingMau, Killamari, and Daedream, tossing out Hoocrates to set up for the rest of the team is a good strategy to have at an early point in aPalworldplaythrough.

Hoocrates Abilities
Hoocrates won’t be a force on the battlefield simply because it’s outclassed by stronger and more resilient Dark-type Pals that are available at the same time. Its Dark Knowledge Partner Skill is what makes it so useful, but its move pool does have some variety that can throw enemy Pals for a loop. Hoocrates has access to some Ground andNeutral-type movesin addition to the Dark attacks it learns throughout. Here’s a deeper look at each move it learns.
Hoocrates isn’t the worst Pal to have on a team, and if players are thinking of running with a team of only Dark types, Hoocrates is a good one to have, even if it isn’t the strongest. Because of its ability to boost the attack of its ally’s Dark moves, Hoocrates is as close to a necessity as can be for early-game Pals.
