It’s not all about war, even though it’s in the title of the game. Most of the time,World of Warcraftplayers are concerned with getting that next great piece of gear or running that exciting new endgame raid. However, there’s also a lot of dressing up and showing off, and in the version of the game that doesn’t have any transmog capabilities, getting the right look or effect is more challenging.

That explains why some accessories and trinkets are so popular even if they’re useless in combat. Instead of giving a player extra abilities or buffs, these trinkets can be used to change a character’s appearance, give them handy abilities that they normally don’t possess, or control the behavior of other players.
7Spectral Essence
For those that are curious and actually paying attention, the island of Caer Darrow has all kinds of dark secrets to discover, and not all of them are hidden within the confines of Scholomance. This particular item,Spectral Essence, is a reward from a quest called “Kirtonos the Herald.” It’s the last in a long series that starts with speaking to Eva Sarkoff, a ghost standing outside the dungeon entrance.
This trinket only has one use. It enables the wearer to see all of the ghosts that inhabit the island, which means handy access to repairsand new food supplies. There are also a couple of Alchemy and Blacksmithing recipes available here from ghostly vendors that don’t appear without the trinket.

6Gnomish Universal Remote
Engineers have an advantage in the trinket department since they can usually craft them, and many are bind-on-pickup and restricted to those of the same profession. This fun and diverting item can be used to control any mechanical creature, so it can be used in combat, but most of the time it’s just fun.

The Gnomish Universal Remote requires an Engineering skill of 125 to build and use, and the Schematic isn’t even that hard to find. It’s available from trade vendors and drops from the occasional enemies.
5Piccolo Of Flaming Fire
The tale of former entertainer Hearthsinger Forresten is a tragic one, caught in the city of Stratholme on the worst day possible. He brought one of his favorite instruments to the tavern with him, a piccolo, and should he spawn when the player runs the dungeon he might drop it, among other things.
Nobody is going to confess that they farm Stratholme for thePiccolo of Flaming Fire, but the fact is that almost-useless trinket is the number one reason groups reset and rerun this favorite classic dungeon. When it’s played, it makes all of the other characters nearby dance, and that’s all. A great accessory to have inan old-school 40-player raid.

4Hook Of The Master Angler
There are all kinds of poles, clothing items, and lures that players can get as rewards from the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza, but only one trinket. It gives the player the ability to breathe underwater, which most players have by the time they’re also high enough level to win the fishing contest, sothis is really about statusinstead of actual utility.

TheHook of the Master Anglerisn’t used as a lure, as the name suggests, but is worn as a trinket and also turns the player into a fish, giving them a swimming form. Given how difficult it is to win this fishing contest, it’s no wonder this is more about bragging rights than special abilities.
3Orb Of Deception
A not-so-rare drop that sells for a few hundred gold even though it does only one thing: disguises the character in a way that doesn’t fool anyone. The nameplate still shows as red to players of the opposing faction and it doesn’t stack with stealth abilities, but it’s one ofthe most coveted itemsin the game.
The description says that it turns the user into a member of the opposing faction but doesn’t give any more details. Undead turn into night elves and humans turn into orcs, for example. Combine it with other weird and diverting items like the Noggenofgger Elixir for unpredictable and hilarious results.

2Nifty Stopwatch
Anything that makes a player run faster is going to be classified as a PvP trinket, and this one gives the character the ability to run 40% faster for 10 seconds. The Nifty Stopwatchis one of the most sought-after non-combat items in the game and it’s not that hard to get, but it’s even easier if you can ask a friend to help kill the elite.

The trinket is a reward for “This Is Going To Be Hard” which is the last quest in a long chain that starts in the Badlands. An NPC named Lotwil Veriatus is located just east of Kargath, and he has a quest called “Let Coolant Heads Prevail” that starts this series.
1Goblin Jumper Cables XL
Another trinket that’s only crafted and usable by Engineers, it’s an option for players that want the power of resurrection but don’t normally have it, so a nice addition for classeslike Rogues and Warriors. It’s also a handy trinket for classes like Shamans that have a long cooldown on resurrection powers or need regents that might not be on hand.
As the name indicates, only a Goblin Engineer can make these, but any Engineer can use them and they aren’t bind-on-pickup. There’s a regular version of the jumper cables as well, and although their success rate is much lower it’s always better than nothing.
