World of Warcraft: Dragonflighthas done a lot to further legitimize Mythic dungeons as a worthy endgame alternative to Mythic raiding, and introducing a Realm First achievement has been one of the latest steps taken to advance that goal. Mythic Keystone dungeons began their life as Challenge Mode dungeons introduced inMists of Pandaria. They have since evolved into a well-oiled source of entertainment and challenge, both within the game and without, as Mythic Dungeon Invitationals have come to define the modern era ofWorld of Warcraft’s esports scene.
In terms of Mythic Keystone dungeons,World of Warcraft: Dragonflightbrings plenty of changes to the standard formula that players are accustomed to inShadowlands. The removal of frustrating affixes such as Inspiring and Necrotic, or increasing the item level value of rewards from the Great Vault, have all been pivotal in streamlining and elevating this insanely popular game mode inWorld of Warcraft.

Mythic Season 1 ofDragonflightcommences on December 12th. According to Wowhead’s datamining efforts, not only will it feature the iconic rush to World First in its raiding scene, but it will also introduce a Realm First achievement for completing a (+20) Mythic Keystone dungeon in time. Given the importance placed by theWorld of Warcraftcommunity in the race to clear a Mythic raid, Blizzard raising its Mythic dungeon equivalent to (+20) legitimizes the game mode in the best possible way.
Initially introduced inBattle for Azeroth, the Realm First achievement for Mythic dungeons required completing a (+15) Mythic Keystone dungeon before the time expired. Though timing a “Fifteen” is no small task for theaverageWorld of Warcraftplayer, it was an easily achievable milestone for most of the game’s upper echelon of players. Timing a “Twenty” may well happen a lot earlier than the World First raid clear, but it will make the race exciting in a manner that hasn’t been seen yet.
The pool of dungeons featured in the first season ofDragonflightwill follow the format established inShadowlandsSeason 4. Among the eight newly introduced dungeons from the expansion, only four will feature as Mythic Keystone dungeons – with the other four slots supplemented by reworked dungeons fromMists of Pandaria,Warlords of Draenor, andLegion. One thing that players are hoping to avoid in Dragonflight Season 1 is poorly-tuned returning dungeons, which might put a damper on the Mythic Keystone race. Given that the developers have built the season around the inclusion of legacy content from the get-go, this will hopefully be avoided.
