However, completing the Secrets of Azeroth event actuallychanges theDragonflighthub city of Valdrakken forever. During the final stages of the questline, Tithris, the bronze Drakonid Innkeeper of the Roasted Ram who aids the players during the quest, takes one of the relics and steps out to “get something from the back,” never to return, revealing himself as one of the relic capers. Shortly after, a red Drakonid by the name of Marinth takes his place from then on.

Marinth has different dialogue, and the random overworld interaction Tithris had with another NPC changes slightly as well. The patron mistakes the new NPC for Tithris, which may be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that the original innkeeper was actually a red Drakonid like Marinth, rather than a bronze one, during theDragonflightbeta.

Fans got a kick out of this fascinating twist during the newWorld of Warcraftquest. The event was unlike anyother holiday or storylineWorld of Warcrafthad ever done before, and players especially loved looking for subtle hints and clues given out via social media accounts and content creators for the event. What’s more, making an actual Valdrakken NPC the culprit, and permanently removing him after the quest, is somethingWorld of Warcrafthas never been done before, showcasing a new way player phasing can be used to enliven the game world.

Though it is an optional side quest, the Secrets of Azeroth mystery may be setting up something big forWorld of Warcraft’s future. At the end of the quest, players find a chest with markings of Fel, Void, and Arcane origin–cosmic forces that rarely work together. Gossip text also claims Tithris was working for the Primal Incarnates, so many fans have been left speculating on if the story will tie intopopularWorld of Warcraftvillains like Iridikron, or if it will introduce a new threat to Azeroth.
